Bought a new 2020 RLX Sport Hybrid

If anyone is shopping one of the remaining 2020 Sport Hybrids, I just paid $49,100 before TTT here in North Florida with zero negotiating...

Congratulations r10apple! It must be nice to just walk into a dealership and get such a great deal - good things come to those that wait for the right timing. Enjoy your new ride!!

Be sure to let us know your first impressions once you have driven your Sport Hybrid for a while.

I picked up an almost brand new 2020 RLX SH last weekend with only 4100 miles for $43.5K +TTL. Most Acura dealers are doing massive discounts to move the last remaining inventory. Pretty sad as these are awesome executive cars. Post up some pics of you car...and welcome!

Congratulations!!! 49k is the current pricing for a TLX 2.0 SH-AWD with an advanced package ... so, it is an understatement to say this is a good deal... IT IS AMAZING DEAL lol

Are you kidding?? Wow, they (the "enthusiasts" and media) really did a number on this car's reputation. I saw an Advance 2017 RLX PAWS with like 8100 miles for 29k not far from my place. Pretty much a brand new car for half the price.

I couldn't care less what "they" did to reputation of this car. As far as I'm concerned, I got a UNICORN at an insane deal. I have never seen an RLX anywhere around here. RLX Sport Hybrid are the rarest in LA where you see BMW 5/7 Series and Lexus LS all day. I love driving such an exclusive car.

Another RLX found a wonderful home!

Any mods planned like tint, splash guards, spare tire kit, or all weather mats? You might want to jump on any OEM accessories because supplies are limited for a low volume vehicle.

Well I know, I don't care what they said either. They're morons who think if a flagship isn't RWD and has a V8 it's worthless. I'm just reinforcing the point that these cars can be had at insane deals in large part from the bad press. The exclusivity is a big reason I want one. I've seen 3 in my life but they were all the PAWS models (pre facelift).

I'm having this exact discussion over at ClubLexus forum. They're all blown out of their minds that I traded in my superior RWD Lexus GS 350 for an inferior FWD based RLX. Love making the Internet trolls upset in the morning.

I wasn't impressed by the Lexus. I think the interior material quality is just as good inside the RLX and I like the look more. Also I hate that mouse controller thing. Who on earth wants to fiddle around with that? Lexus is all hype and everyone seems to think they are the only Japanese luxury brand that can last a long time.

I think Lexus' biggest selling point is the reliability - but other things like a mouse cursor, cruise control (separate piece behind the steering wheel on the bottom right, performance somewhat behind other brands like Acura, Infiniti, etc. - that is what is a deal-breaker for me with Lexus. I test drove 2018 GS350 F-Sport AWD with 7k miles: honestly, my current 2006 RL with 205k was driving 90% as the GS350 - so why spend 50k on it lol

Crown Acura in Richmond (80 miles from me) has two of the exact same new RLX SH's on their lot. Have to admit these have been on my mind, but have also been waiting to see the 2021 TLX Type - S.

Car and Driver Mag did a quick review of the 2.0T TLX sh-awd. They were not very enthusiastic about the vehicle being able to compete with the big boys in most categories other than the "value" check mark: https://www.caranddriver.com/acura/tlx

The TLX 2.0T sh-awd comes in at 4000lbs for 272hp/280tq compared to the RLX hybrid at 4400lbs with 377hp/341tq. I can see the Type-S TLX might see an additional 100-200 lbs on top of that.

Agreed and understood.
Type S is currently spec'd as 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 | 355 HP | 354 pound-feet of torque so likely all in the same ballpark.
Part of my issue is that I have put about 3600 miles on my car in the past year and currently at a rate of 2400 for the past six months. Other than being an almost 13 yo car, my current TL-S serves me well. It's hard to justify spending ~$50K at this point, but I do understand the value proposition with the RLX and their scarcity.

Very good point: I find myself in a similar situation: given the pandemic, working from home full time, not driving that many miles, it makes it even harder to justify getting a new car when my current RL is super reliable and even w 210k miles, drives just fine v 50k cars lol ... RLX is certainly an upgrade on many fronts, but why get something just to get it ...

I wasn't planning on getting my 18 RLX last December; but, I didn't want to miss out on this vehicle. I was using my 19 MDX hybrid as my main travel vehicle at +20,000 miles per year and retired my 11 MDX Adv with +144,000 miles as my around town errand vehicle. I just found one red/ebony combo in the entire USA when I was looking that just happen to be CPO with 7200 miles. I still look occasionally and still don't see a lot of low miles red/ebony combo in any year other than 2018. Just wasn't a lot of 2nd place choices compared to the RLX hybrid for power, luxury, +100k reliability, +27 city mpgs, and price.

Hopefully, Acura will bring back the RLX or another sedan flagship in the next 5-7 years along with a 4th Gen MDX hybrid/plug-in by 2025 (still waiting for my flying car that was promised in Back to the Future II )

By then, you can prob. pick up this car for an even lower price. For me, this one is a keeper. Got good mods planned for this car

Just for kicks to see what happens I submitted eprice requests to two dealers that have the same 2020 RLX SH vehicles. It's the end of the month and I mentioned it to the Mrs and she said, just go do it.........

Just curious, what did they came back with? Couple weeks ago, I too told my wife I would be looking at the RLX. I was expecting her to shut me down immediately, instead she said go for it. And get this...she said to use our Savings account to pay for it in CASH. I didn't use all our money, finance it instead for a very low 2.79% APR. I put down a huge 40% to get my monthly payments to very reasonable $$. May pay if off early if I really like the car. Good luck. Hope they come back with low to mid $40K. If you own another newer Acura, don't forget the $1K loyalty credit + $11K Acura discount. $12K off the top easily even before dealer discounts.

I sent the requests just before they both closed and heard back from one of the two so far. From that one dealer, I have only gotten the "Hi how are you, I'm so and so and would love to have you come in......" Then it was followed up by "I was talking with so and so and as her boss and director of internet sales you may feel more comfortable talking directly with me.........yada yada yada." So I replied to both of them (independently) with the same email saying at this point I am just looking for the ePrice. They always want to do the dance..........

Have to cut right to the chase . . . .Give me your best price out the door. I wouldn't even respond to anything else without a quote. If they want to move the vehicle, they will respond. Chances are they will send you the same price you have already seen. If you get that, then send them your best offer out the door. Then sit back and wait.
Certainly nothing you don't already know!!!! Good luck.

Normally, when purchasing a new car, I have always dealt with Internet Sales. I research invoice price and throw them a little extra. If they don't come back with a written offer, I move on to next dealer. RLX are not selling well, trust me they will want to move it ASAP.

Hi guys,

for you RLX Hybrid owners, I am trying to trade my new Acura RLX premium mat set, which includes the premium trunk mat, straight up for the standard OEM trunk mat that came with the RLX hybrid originally. Anyone interested in these awesome premium mats?

Why trade it? Why not keep it? Just wondering, but if you have the ebony color, I can trade I kept my original mat while using the high wall all season mat right now. My car is exactly like the one in the video

I hear you. The first dealer did give me a quote but it was the final final number without any of the details and still doing the dance. "I would love for you to come in or give me a good phone number so we can get you the best deal. We are the #1 dealer in the world for the past 16 years and definitely don't overcharge our customers." 2nd dealer provided the full quote with all details and discount is/was $16.7K off MSRP of $62,925 (Advance Trim). They did add on "Resistall" and "Pro Pack" but overall felt is was a straight forward process with them. Also had a Processing Fee of $579 which I assumed to be the paperwork, etc stuff. I think that is crazy money for what they do but I guess just another way to pad the deal in their favor.
I haven't done anything and am thinking I am still going to wait for the TLX Type S.

For those that recently purchased RLX Sport Hybrids, how do you like it? How do you find the handling, infotainment, and agility/nimbleness? Are the transitions between EV and ICE seamless? Does the throttle/transmission respond well?

Handling - It's OK, not as firm as our MDX Sport Hybrid (no active dampers). It's like driving a bigger executive car. A little bit wallowing on big dips that doesn't give you any reassurance this thing to take quick turns
Infotainment - Absolutely garbage. I can't wait to install GROM to bypass this horrible Acura system. I've tried entering addresses with voice, it's really bad. Car is stopped in my quiet driveway, it can't even recognize basic street names. And I speak plain clear English with no accents. Entering addresses with keypad takes forever. System is so freaking slow, feels like I'm operating a 386 computer back in the 80s. Worthless piece of crap, absolutely the worst system I've ever used. IMO, this is the #1 problem with Acura cars. People get turn off immediately with this poor infotainment system. Saving grace is the excellent Krell audio. Superb clear sound with zero distortion. Turn up the volume, you'll hear all the nuances of music you've never heard before with no rattling or distortion. Krell is even better than ELS studio in our MDX and Mark Levinson in my previous Lexus.
Agility - It doesn't feel as agile as my MDX SH in quick turns, the car lean quite a bit. Its saving grace is the 377HP, plenty of power for effortless acceleration.
EV/Ice transition - This is one of my favorite part about the Sport Hybrid drivetrain. Absolutely flawless execution, you won't feel or hear a thing. The initial boost of torque provided by the EV motors is absolutely thrilling and very addictive.
7DCT - super fast gear changes, no lag what so ever..smooth as butter! I've driven the 9 SP ZF in TLX, horrible lag between gear changes and it shakes the entire car with hard gear changes.

Why not go test drive the Sport Hybrid? I knew how good the drivetrain was because I've already own the MDX for 3 years now. But I wasn't ready for that increase in HP. Really put a big smile on my face every single time I slam the pedal. The tires chirps looking to put down all that torque. I will probably go put wider 255/40/19 Michelin A/S3+ soon. I feel these Primacy Touring tires are holding this car back quite a bit. Hopefully the wider tires will get rid of some wallowing and give the car tighter controls in turns.

Pretty much spot on with my observations with my RLX Hybrid and MDX Hybrid. I wish I could put the best of both hybrids on each vehicle like same 377hp/341tq, HUD, electronic dampers with 4 IDS settings, T-Jam Assist, MDX 2nd row digital climate controls, Carplay, trunk close button, MDX interior lighting, MDX wood trim, etc... The exclusivity, sporty updated styling, and the hybrid powertrain+HUD pretty much makes the RLX hybrid worth it for me. Doesn't hurt to have that much hp/tq, 5 sec 0-60 times, and get better mpgs compared to my 06 TSX 5AT with a 2.4L.

The only work around for the slow ass navi input system is to use the Acuralink smartphone app to search with Apple maps and send addresses to the Acura navi. I find it about 85%-95% successful searching/sending depending on connection.

I want to try Acuralink but how do I get it on a used car? New car you get 90 days free promo right?

The only way you can get the 90 days free is with a new purchase or you purchased CPO from Acura. There might be a way to get your free 90 days if the previous owner didn't use it? I'm disappointed Acuralink doesn't include the remote start for the MDX or RLX (only the +19 RDX). The Acuralink remote start would come in handy if your RLX is parked at the airport for 7-14 days and you want to start to charge the 12v battery. Still nice to see your PSI, gas level, DTE, iCloud calendar, vehicle location, oil life, Acura notifications, and lock/unlock status at a glance. I haven't found any price discounts on 1-3 year long Acuralink packages.

I’ll post some pics soon. I got the same white color combo as you. I am having the roof wrapped black in a couple of weeks. Other than that ‘mod’, I swapped out the factory wheel lock for a blue tuner lock that sort of matches the blue hybrid badge. Windows are already tinted.

As for impressions, I had both a 2016 and a 2018 RLX Tech before, but the cars are not similar at all. The 2020 SH has the cooled seats, HUD, better seats, better cameras, Krell—all great options. My kiddo loves the rear sunshades. The car is obviously much quicker, though it feels floatier that the Tech cars did. And I swear the leather is nicer. In the end, the only thing I dislike is the rear trunk room. Otherwise, love the added performance, the Krell and the HUD.

I wasn't crazy about the white color. I wanted Gilded Pewter but none are available around here. I didn't want Seacoast interior with that awful white steering wheel and headliner. Post up pics of your wrapped roof. I might do same. Been thinking about getting wheels. Drooling over some Work wheels.

I was close to wrapping my roof black to make my red RLX look like a PMC edition after I blacked out all the chrome w/ black rims. I was even debating getting the black painted rear spoiler instead of the red body colored one along with the black roof. Decided to PPF the roof and red spoiler instead. I kinda regret not wrapping it just to see how it would have looked blacked out.

no wheels for me—I LOVE how quiet the car is, and the harmonic balancers in the wheels are a huge part of that. I looked into powder coating before with my old RLX, but they could not effectively remove them to coat the wheels. I did think of wrapping the wheels gloss black, but we shall see about that.

I get those harmonic balancers do a good job at deadening the road noise, but why did Acura have to make such ugly wheels. And it's too narrow for my taste. Would have prefer 255-265 width.

Quick Reply: Bought a new 2020 RLX Sport Hybrid
