Battery went "poof" ;-)

Wife's 2018 RLX Sport Hybrid - built 12/17, in-service of 1/19, purchased as CPO 4/19 (1200 miles), battery RIP 10/22 (15,500 miles)

She went to head to the community college (she's an adjunct prof) and the car started acting like a christmas tree - flashing everything - and of course it wouldn't start. Sent her off with my MDX and started to investigate. Put on the battery charger and it showed the battery had 6.1 volts, and was charged to 35 percent. Put on the charger and was able to get it up to 12 volts after about 40 minutes and get it started. Voltage then showed 14.4 (so the alternator / whatever-the-hybrid-uses was working) and I drove it around the block a few times. But things were still not really right (like the memory settings weren't there). Brought it to the dealer. Battery checked OK for the first 10 minutes - but after sitting with the analyzer on it, you could see the voltage drop back into the 7-8 range and still falling. Sooo - battery replaced under warranty. Car is happy again - and the memory settings are back (much to the wife's happiness).

There was no real warning as it started/ran fine 2 days ago. Guess my experience shows what other owners have seen with Hondas/Acuras - when the battery goes, it goes, and the car has no idea which end is up. During the charging it was making all sorts of strange noises - clunks/beeps/clicks - sounded like a pinball machine. Plus it never let it get out of "push to start" mode - very odd. Anyhow, back to normal like nothing happened....

I had to replace my battery on my 18 RLX in Dec of 2021 with 18,000 miles. I started getting "U0104-00 ACC may not work properly" and "U1100 Gauge control module loss of communication". Acura tech said it was the battery starting to go bad and it was causing the other errors. New OEM battery under warranty. So far, I've never gone beyond 4 years with Acura batteries in all 5 of my previous and current Acura's since 2006. I will be at 4 year on my original battery for my 19 MDX hybrid in March of 2023 (debating waiting or just replace with aftermarket now).

Replacement LiFePO4 Batteries As Replacements

Hi

Has anyone purchased a LFP starting battery for their Sport Hybrid ? I have been contemplating replacing mine with an AntiGravity Group 24 60Ah or a Dakota Lithium Group 24 60Ah.

I welcome any facts any of you have from your documentation research.

Thanks!

I hadn't heard much about these sorts of batteries, but during lunch I did some searching and ran across this video.
I can't comment on the credibility of the source, but if some of the facts around low-temp starting and higher-temp issues with battery longevity, I don't see how these sorts of batteries would be beneficial, especially in the environment I live in (snow belt of NH). YMMV.
