Spare tire for FWD advance
#2
Below is the answer from "Curry Acura Parts" and they have good price on the Acura accessories.
Acura offers a spare tire kit for the 2019 RDX. Part number 06421-TJB-A50 for the spare tire kit which includes the tools to lift the vehicle, the hoist to secure the spare to the underside of the vehicle, and the rim. You will also require p/n 42751-ken-001 which is the rubber portion of the tire, p/n83307-tjb-a00za and 83305-tjb-a00za will also be required. Tire will need to be installed on rim at a shop that has access to a tire machine.

So the -A50 is for the Aspec with 20" wheels as the -A00 is for the 19" versions. Just want to make sure I get it right.

That is what I read also, as I have not made the purchase. You can confirm with www.curryacuraparts.com , on the site, they do list two different kits, one for A-spec and the other for all non-A-spec.

Let us know how hard it is to install the kit. According to the instruction, it does not look too bad. Thanks!

The company that I bought it from on ebay, said they didn't have it in stock and wasn't sure when it would ship. I did happen to find it on another website online for 212 shipped, so I went that route. I just checked their website to see if they changed the price and I see they have the part listed as discontinued.

Thanks for the feedback.
I looked at description for both the 19" and 20" kits again and found they both listed the same size tire. I would believe that they are probably the same kit, but with different label stickers

If that is the case then look at acurapartswarehouse. They have the a50 kit for $212.

Thanks again
I am still thinking about this. I have not the chance to use the spare tire for the past 14 years and I have AAA roadside assistance, that is why I am undecided.

So 100% that both kits are the same size and will fit the aspec?
I really would prefer a spare tire then this patch kit

I am curious, from looking under the car I almost think a full sized spare would fit under there, anyone try this or see if it would fit? It’s pretty deep under there and seems like there is room, don’t want it sitting on the mufflers tho

I used a tape measure to test and it seems putting a 235 tire down there would have it protruding fairly close to the ground, affecting the departure angles. Will see how things look after I install my temporary spare.

could you get a pic of that when its installed and show how much gap there is from the mufflers and how much it hangs down?

The spare tire is barely visible from behind the vehicle. Any wider and it will protrude downward.
Spare tire stowed under the car
Spare tire hoist adaptor does not fit through the center hole of the regular wheel.

Below are some pictures I snapped yesterday. The hoist is designed to work with only the spare tire, as marked on the adaptor that fits through the center of the wheel. It's too large to fit through the center of the standard wheel... I tried it out of curiosity.

also a trick that might get that through is before putting the holder in bend the wire and push it through then push the middle hoist adapter peice through so the wire is already on the other side, it might work

Dereileak, I saw in another thread that you ordered that 165/90/R17 tire. That's awesome that we saw there that it would fit under the car. I didn't think about that and there wasn't much info available, so I went with the factory fitment.
I did try to bend the wire, and I didn't want to force it and damage the wire or get the holder stuck. The regular spare wheel already required a bit of bending the wire, but with the regular wheel, moreso.

I ordered the 06421-TJB-A50 and when I got it everything was just thrown in one box and clanging and almost looked as if they had repacked it. I see you have two large boxes. Was there additional packing in yours so it was not clanging around?

Mine came in 1 box but was packed well.

I can’t quite tell how close it is to the mufflers, if I went with a slightly wider tire it adds .7 inches in diameter, do you think it could fit that extra diameter under there? The tire I found that gets almost to stock within 1% is this size 165/90R17

I'm usually pretty ingenious and damn stubborn, and I failed to defeat the design.
I only wish they had put that guy in charge of infotainment system development.

NO! The A-Spec has a different lug wrench with size for both the lug nuts and the hoist for the spare-tire, so look for that at the online Acura place in North Carolina. I now have an extra wrench for another Acura RDX if anyone in the Phoenix area wants it. Not sure what submodel it is for, as we have RDXs with 18”, 19” and 20” as OEM! Weird!

Full size spare, 2020 RDX tech.I just need a full size ugly spare. Is the hoist line long enough to go through a steel wheel hub. Would the 235/55/19 fit safely under the car even though the designed space maybe smaller? Might the tire be too close to the muffler or have a rub point?

Looking into a spare option for my 20’ ASpec as well, main question I was wondering is, if you have a compact spare on, do you have to also disable the traction control? I know some other vehicle’s computers freak out seeing different levels of traction and rotation rates etc on that one super undersized wheel, or it may think there’s a loss of traction when there’s not..

Nah….That’s so long ago that I can hardly remember doing the ordering and finally getting the spare in…..and I haven’t thought about it since because I haven’t needed it. It is an ugly little thing and I pray it is enough to get me to a Discount Tire to get my Michelin PS3AT replaced. Sorry……
