17" tire size for Aspec, 225 or 235?
Looking to get 17" winter tires for my 2021 Aspec but noticed that tire places keep recommending 235/65R17 when a 225/65R17 is closer to stock.
Based on my calculations the wheel diameters are as follows (usual recommendation is staying within 3% of stock size)
-255/40R20 is 712mm (Aspec stock)
-225/65R17 is 724.3mm (1.7% difference)
-235/65R17 is 737.3mm (3.6% difference)
-235/55R19 is 741.1mm (4.1% difference!!) (Advance package)
Just wondering what size Aspec owners are running as I'm more inclined to go with the 225 size as it's closer to stock. I understand the difference running a larger diameter will have but just really curious as this is my first RDX.
What winter tires do you guys run? I'm in Ontario and was looking at Blizzak DM=V2
Thx

Your A-Spec sizing is incorrect. The A-Spec 20" is a 255/45/20, not a 255/40/20.
On Tire Rack the RPMs for the 19" and 20" tires are:
20" A-Spec: 255/45/20 - 719 rpm.
19": 235/55/19 - 711 rpm.
17" is awfully small for this size of vehicle even for winter conditions - you can certainly run it but not sure what you're gonna get out of running something that small. If you do go with 17" Tirerack recommends 235/65/17 which gets you a 717 rpm tire (well within spec).
Myself, I'm running 19" winters - considering the tire options don't get any narrower (to cut through snow better) the choice between 17, 18, 19 is really about looks (and I like looks).
