Problem with filling gas
 

I had two gas fill up with my RDX since I took delivery and I had problem with both of them.

First time, the gas overflow out of the gas tank before the pump click off.
Second time, at another station, the pump keeps on clicking full for the first 2 gallons, then it continues until about 7.5 gallons. I stopped but realize its only ~80% full.

I had a civic which also had a cap less tank, so I don't think it's me. Anyone else had the same issue?

I've had about 8 fill-ups with no issues.

I had it click way too early as well....almost as soon as I started filling. I had to pull the nozzle part way out and then it would fill all the way to full.

That is an issue with the pump nozzle. I have had that happen on every vehicle I've owned at one time or another.

Yes I agree....RDX was not the first vehicle I've had this experience with. Very minor.

Does it happen every fill up?

Is this happening at the same gas station?

Different gas station. That's why I wanna check if I am the only one. Already set up an appointment with service, let's see if they find anything.

You are not the only one but IMO there is nothing wrong. Try not bottoming the nozzle......not pushing nozzle all the way into the hole next time. Pull the nozzle back out a teeny bit and see if that stops the clicking.

This may be the reason you are getting premature shutoff. Gas pump nozzles have a device in the end that when gasoline runs back up into it, it turns off the fuel flow. There's a tiny hole near the bottom of the gas pump nozzle connected to a small tube. Normally, air flows through that tube while you're filling and the gas keeps flowing as long as you hold down on the trigger. When that hole gets covered by gasoline (when your tank is full), a vacuum forms inside the nozzle and an automatic shutoff switch gets tripped, turning off the flow of gas with a thunk.

Gas is likely getting backed up somewhere between the filler neck and the gas tank. Think of trying to pour wine back into a wine bottle – if you pour too quickly, the wine gets caught in the narrow neck. So, gasoline rushes back up your car's fuel filler tube, toward you, instead of into the tank, hits that sensor hole on the nozzle and shuts off the pump before the tank is full.

It sounds like my issue is not common, maybe I'm using it wrong. But after two abnormal fill up I would feel safer checking with service. Thanks.

So I had a few more refuels and didn't have any problem. I event returned to the same two stations and didn't experience the problem again. Maybe those gas tank part also need a break in?
I have a potentially bigger problem to deal with (flashing engine light and limp mode) and the car been in service for a few days and they have no idea why it happened...
