Power tailgate making a moaning/groaning sound
[QUOTE=Ludepower;16533519]What's everyone moaning update? I don't want acura tearing my car apart if the moan comes back.[/QUOTE
They replaced one of my Lift assist hinges last year and I haven’t had the moan since.

Anyone have this problem? It happens both on opening and closing. The sound lasts a second or two; very loud and annoying. Dealer wants me to bring the RDX in to diagnosis aka they have no idea and will tear my RDX up and find nothing until Acura issues a TSB. From what I can see is that all the trim pieces in the rear have to be removed to get to the tail gate motor and gears. Also looks like the headliner needs to come down. I’m sure they can get all the pieces out, but will they be able to put them back to original condition!? I’m not a happy camper right now.
P.S. Yes, I know I spelled tailgate wrong.

Moaning Tailgate
I had the same issue, mainly when the weather was warm. The dealer replaced the right tailgate ‘shock/strut’ April of 2019. That fixed it, no moaning since. They billed Acura under warranty: $281.58 for parts and $128.08 for labor. That’s about two hours labor so I doubt that it required a complete disassembly of the tailgate. This is a well known problem so don’t trust that the dealer is unaware of it. Even if he is that spaced out all he needs to do is call the Acura tech line to get the info. Acura is the worst automotive company I’ve ever dealt with. Only 10 months left on my lease and I’m counting them down. Oh, and last week I took my 2019 RDX Advance in for the fuel pump recall. They improperly racked the car and it slid and damaged the driver door. The car is at the dealer right now to have the door replaced. I don’t even get upset about it anymore. Just can’t wait to dump the lemon.
Sounds like something that would happen to me at a dealer service department. Oh wait, it did. A Mazda shop once positioned the lift arms outside of the pinch welds (!) and crushed the bodywork. One of many unprofessional interactions I've had with dealer service departments. It's certainly not just Acura.

Hi Guys, Has anyone else had their dealer perform the above fix per Cazman? I have this same moaning/groaning/metal rubbing sound "only" when weather is warm spring/summer on my Black 2020 A-spec SH-AWD. If it sits outside in the sun for a few hours when temp is warm/hot, the moaning/groaning gets "a lot" louder when its' about to fully retract or when its about to start closing. I had my local dealer look at it and of course it only made a slight moaning sound while there since the car sat inside the dealer before it was going to be serviced. The service manager said Acura is aware of this noise and told me that the noise is coming from the tailgate motor and said the worm gear in the motor expands as it gets hotter causing the noise. He also said that this is most common for Black Colored RDX's since it attracts the sun more (which really sounds like BS to me). He basically said that's normal until Acura comes out with a permanent fix or a TSB which they have not yet done so. Due to this, I want to bring Cazman's fix to my dealers attention but would like confirmation that the noise has not come backfor the people that got this done. I would hate for them to tear the back apart to replace the shock/strut/ and cause more problems while they attempt to replace this. Thanks All.
LOL. I knew it! Thanks for letting me know yours was white and confirming no noise for 2yrs afterwards. I am going to have this dealer do the same fix on my RDX.
