Glovebox light?

What is this white thing below in the glovebox?
it has wires attached to it, but it doesn’t come on like a light.

It comes on when the headlights are on. To test this, in a dark place, unlock the door, open the door (the headlights should come on), and then open the glove compartment door, you should see the light.

Ah ha! Thank you!

Really a stupid idea since it is dark in there whether it's day time or night time.

Thanks. I was wondering that myself. And I agree that it should always go on when opened.

This is overthinking a simple need; light in a dark place. Instead of using a dedicated hot circuit, they spec'd a line that is hot only when the lights are on. Why so specific? Sometimes an engineer doesn't know when to put down the pencil.

Wow, cant some things just be left alone? A simple idea with a dedicated hot circuit line. I guess this way it is not as easy to run a battery down if the switch malfunctions.

Does the fridge light stay on when the door is closed?
