Any Air Intake available ?

Is there any manufacturer out there making a good quality Air intake ?

horseshoez 06-20-2019 03:50 AM

Yup, Acura, it is already on your RDX.

Dereileak 06-20-2019 12:37 PM

I would like one just to get more blow off valve and turn noise myself

horseshoez 06-20-2019 01:03 PM

No idea what that means.

Haven't heard anything yet, but there is a better chance something becomes available in the Accord / Civic Type R world that might be adaptable, given the similarity in engines.

What would you expect from such a change?

SIngle digit horsepower change....up or down....depending on the competence of the designers. More induction noise.

Hmmm, more turbo noise at the expense of introducing a huge increase in dirt entering your engine. To each his (or her) own, but for me, no thanks.

Do you have any personal experience with intakes causing issues to this huge increase in dirt or just regurgitating myths spread on the internet? I’ve had intakes on almost everyone of my cars I’ve had in the last 20 years with absolutely no issues at all. The only issue you may run into is if the diameter of the intake pipe is too big and having maf issues without a tune.

Excuse me? Myth? There are any number of studies which definitely prove such filters a dramatic increase in dirt passing the filter. Now, you can call that a myth if you want, but that would just leave you as naive as you currently are.

Wow panties in a bunch? Can you provide links? I’d like to see this. I’m curious to how I take companies who have done decades of r&d are still in business if this said damage is so catastrophic. Let me guess these same intakes destroy maf sensors too? With people so sue happy I’d expect massive lawsuits if this was such a wide spread issue.

Where did I say any of that? Answer; I didn't. As for links, I'll provide just one, if you are interested, you're welcome to do your own research. The fact is, there is no free lunch, if you want a filter which keeps the dirt out (high efficiency) and still has increased high end flow, you're going to need an OEM style dry filter with a significant increase in surface; K&N and other style aftermarket filters are neither.

Regarding your personal experience, meh, anecdotal and utterly irrelevant from a scientific perspective.

Burger Steak & Eggs 06-22-2019 05:42 PM

.
Wonder if they used K&N filters on Corsairs in WWII. I'm thinking not.

We are simply going to have to agree to disagree and I really hope you’re not comparing ww2 tech to 2019. Pretty sure if you look up any big money build on huge horsepower cars they aren’t running stock air boxes. Yes the will let it more particles with an open intake but to people who mod cars it’s worth it. Take care of your car and it will take care of you.

The number of ironies in your post is considerable.
  • It appears you are not interested in the truth and are willing to stay uninformed about that which you advocate for (I say this because if you really were interested in the truth, you would have done some research on your own).
  • Back in WWII, virtually all cars and other vehicles with internal combustion engines used K&N style oiled air filters; auto manufacturers moved away from them because of their low filtration efficiency.
  • With the above in mind, it seems you are the one trying to compare WWII technology with modern high efficiency dry synthetic dry filtering media; like it or don't, the K&N will lose every time when a daily driver is the vehicle in question.
  • Yes, true race cars run low restriction filters, or no filters at all, but hey, who cares, the engines only need to survive the life of the race.
  • If you really want to take care of your car, you'll use a high quality OEM style dry filter with synthetic media.

I’ve done some research and yes they let it more microns of dirt than OEM. Is it a staggering amount that will destroy and engine or even cause significant harm...no. K&N and other aftermarket filters aren’t all oiled either so is it just oiled ones you are concerned with? I wasn’t just talking about race cars I’m talking almost all 400+ horsepower cars even some OEM like Shelby’s come with open style filters do they not? And lose every time how? Just filtering or performance?

Basically a battle between people who mod their car vs people who don't lol.

I'm not sure why this is a battle.

I don't plan on modding my RDX, but love to hear about those who do, the gains they accomplish, and the satisfaction they receive from doing the mods..

There are “green” reusable air filters that are drop-in the stock air box. If you want them check around for prices. Graham Rahal is very high, the buildere much beter. The big thing is keep them clean. Reusable filters often get ignored or fortotten.

I have a blow-off valve on my Mazdaspeed3. I have also updated the throttle body, added a CAI, added a larger top mounted intercooler with a large scoop on the hood that cools it directly. I also put on a turbo-back larger diameter exhaust with high flow catalytic converter. It sounds sweet. I also lowered it and did a bunch of stuff. Why am I sharing this? We never get our money out of mods except when you purchase another of the same make model.

My Mazdaspeed is an amazing vehicle and in excellent shape, but I will never recover my cost. I have been blessed with the experience of modding and adding my personal touches. All of the young guys who have seen it love it and call it “the cleanit Speed they have ever seen...Oh, did U tell you that ist is for sale/

Nice car, but here's the thing about sieve style filters; the dirtier they get, the higher the filtration efficiency.

You've got me looking at civic type R intakes on youtube. The gruppe M looks delicious.

RDX_PR 09-08-2019 11:04 AM

Someone in the FB group already tried to fit the AEM air intake from the 2.0 2018 accord and had issues with the heat shield box, but he said everything else fit fine. He ended up returning it anyway.

wavshrdr 09-09-2019 01:50 PM

Problem with CAI on a turbo car is they are over very limited value. In general cars have gotten better with their intakes over the years. I mean there may be an occasional car that is very restrictive but much better bang for the buck to spend your money elsewhere. Normally aspirated (non-turbo) cars usually see better gains. Often I got about as much of an improvement as some of the CAIs as just drilling more holes in the stock airbox and putting up better shielding from it and the motor (where possible). I would much prefer a better intercooler (aka CAC - charge air cooler) to invest in than any CAI.

I feel often the aftermarket doesn't do enough testing or just wants to sell you stuff. The nuances matter in your parts. Take intercooler design. Here is a great link to bring you up to speed on the different types.

https://www.mishimoto.com/engineerin...ler-selection/

An easy improvement to your stock intercooler, and won't void your warranty, is to setup a water spray on it. I used to run my windshield washer tank pump and jets to spray my intercooler with ice cold water improving its effectiveness. More power, less thermal stress and not much work and no issues with warranty.

Dont do it. sorry for not updating sooner. worked for 30 miles then all the lights went off. My fiancee was pissed. put it back to stock. only $35 wasted for me.

Like someone said the MAF scaling is different. Just have to wait unitl a Real RDX one comes out

yeah i was bummed too. it sounded so good. under light load with pedal depressed a little you could hear the spool and then when let off you could clearly hear the blow off valve

What lights went off? From an air intake? Please explain. Thanks and blessings!

I wish they would hurry up. Even if AFE would make a ProDry drop in it would help. Sigh.
