Splash Guard - DIY .. anyone?
Dealer is asking for 250 (installed) and the same set is available at other dealer for 115. I am tempted to install it myself. Anyone tried it? how was your experience and recommendation ?

I did this last weekend. Only issue was I was short one speed clip but dealer I purchased from had a replacement in the mail in no time. |
One of the easiest things you can install on a car with the proper tools. Save your money and DIY.

I installed mine. Fronts a piece of cake, just cock the wheels to gain access. Rears not as easy unless you remove the wheels. |
I ended up removing the rear wheels and then it was a breeze...

Fronts were easy....I didn't even turn the wheels. The backs....as I have no spare, no jack (A-Spec)...took it to the dealer and had to pay $65.

I installed mine this evening after I washed the car. It took about 45 mins max. Took off the rear wheels to install them. It took roughly 15-20 mins to do the rear for the first side and less than 10 mins to do the other side. Just finished mine. The rear ones are difficult to do without taking off the wheels. It is not easy to align the screws to the spring nuts, even with the stubby screw driver. It took me 30 minutes each side.
Tips for the rear ones (if you are not removing the wheels): - For the one spring nut (each side) that is vertical to the ground, you may need to close the gap a little, so that it would stay on the installed location. - Before you install the brackets, just put the screws on through the spring nuts first and back them out. It is easier to align the holes on the bracket to the spring nuts this way. |
I'm wondering a couple of questions about this:
1) Why did you guys want splash guards? Are they to keep salt and debris from hitting your paint on the sides? what are you protecting do you think by putting them on? 2) Where can I order just the part without installation? Do they sell on ebay or somewhere online? |

Pretty much almost pays to buy online either from ebay or other acura dealers that aggressively sell online and at much better prices....curryacura is one of several. They sell some things on ebay and others online through their store. Even the extended warranty is much cheaper. I got two price quotes online then went to the local Acura dealer with printouts in hand. They wanted a LOT more for the D80 plan that I had quotes for, but then they matched the best price. Presently I am getting running boards and heated steering wheel installed and saved several hundred dollars by buying online and having the dealer install. Some things you can install yourself, others not so much. Acura makes great install instructions but the amount of work it takes is a bit unnerving sometimes. Depends on your skill level and...bravery.

Finally got time to install splash guards last night. Front was super easy but rear was bit difficult. Main issue was aligning all 4 holes to screw - specially lower holes.
But it was worth saving 100+ :) |
I bought online for full set, and did it myself aroudn 45-60 mins, the rear take more time since it come with 2 parts. Just follow pdf instruction above.

This should be my first mod, after the trailer hitch. Thanks for posting. Oh, My A-spec did not come with splash guards!!

I installed mine a couple weeks ago. Fronts were easy. Rears were a pain with the wheel mounted. I couldn't get one of the screws installed, so I plan to remove the wheel finish it up soon.

Can anyone take some pictures as a guide for me? I'm struggling to install the two in the back,

You would need to push the felt like cover toward the car to reveal it.
