And I will second that thank you. I still can't believe the difference in quality of sound. Now I have advanced from 1 minute clips (thanks to oblio98) to whole songs! I just wish there was a service like I-tunes that you could purchase 5.1 songs from, or a streaming service that you could stream them from, although I would imagine that would be pretty data heavy. It's interesting that Acura would put a 5.1 capable system in the car with such little access to the average Joe....if at least it had a disc player that might make a little more sense...but what do I know.

Thanks for the music. I’ve heard most of these before but not in 5.1, really an amazing difference. Certainly not hearing road noise with these songs playing.

You should be able to see the album first in the list under 'Albums', that is why I named it a5.1.... The system sorts starting with lower case 'a', so all my 5.1's are the same 'a5.1 xxx-yyy'. Weird, but it works....

We were able to enjoy it in its entirety today. Wonderful! Took a 4 hour drive up to Flagstaff to get out of the heat. The high at home today? 109. At 7,000 ft Flagstaff? 89. The forecast low at home tonight? 89. In Flag? 59...ahhhh

We had a nice cool weekend in Flagstaff, but the highlight was driving down through Oak Creek Canyon to Sedona. It s a beautiful drive, and the highlight of this highlight?

See this section of Highway 89A. The RDX in Sport+ mode...listening to 5.1!!! There was some sort of recent Mercedes SUV on my tail as we approached this segment of road, but by the bottom, he was WAAAY behind. YEAH! RDX for the WIN.

would be good to get a comparison. I have a B&W system in a 2017 MBnz, and think the RDX beats hands down. Would like to hear your opinion!

Again, thank you so much! One question, Is there an easy way for me to arrange the files, or rename them, so they play in the RDX in the order from the original CD/DVD?

When I put the flash drive in the USB port, it initializes, then it's kind of strange to start with a song, then have an intro from Elliott, the a few songs, then another intro female commentary, etc. I tried renaming them without success. FYI I use Win 10.

If not, please don't spend any time on this, as the sound is amazing just as it is. AND much appreciated!

Wow. That’s incredible if the RDX sounds better than the B&Ws knowing the huge cost difference.

BTW, what is the QA difference of the music files you posted before?

the two albums are now in proper albums is all. Just go to albums and you will each one. Before they were screwed up. Too many tags confused it. No change in the 48/24 quality.

'Tags' are information 'tagged' to the file to identify it to the system playing it.
If you go to the flac file directory on the thumbdrive in Win 10, then choose a file(s), right click and choose properties, you can change the tags under 'details'. The tags 'artist', 'album' and 'Title' are used to sort and display in the RDX. when I ripped it, for some reason, it created too many different tags and confused the RDX. It happens sometimes. I just removed the extra tags. it was making the RDX think each song was a separate album.
You can do the same on a MAC, but need a program to change the tags. Like 'dbpoweramp' (gets installed so you just right click and choose under 'services'.- very convenient)

Hey JB,
if you place a 01, 02, 03,... in front of the files you want to order in the same directory, then it should play them in that order. Like you could make sure all 'talking demo' files are placed last on the list, with 90-,91-,92-... etc, or remove them altogether.
Sometimes the system has to read the thumbdrive a couple times to take the changes. It appears to cache the thumbdrive and updates the list periodically.

I don’t know a lot about the sound system on the RDX, but I have a question that I’m sure there are people who have the knowledge I need. I don’t seem to get any sound out of the overhead speakers that are directly above the driver and passenger’s head. Is it because I don’t have the proper music? I have tried loading flac files via usb which sound great, but the sound is not coming out of these two speakers. Any feedback is appreciated! I might add that I have played with the overhead speaker controls in the settings to no avail.

first, you can barely hear them. They are not very loud 1) because the limited frequencies of the speakers, 2) the limited power because they are so close to your head. The DSP determines how much content they provide. When I change mine, they slightly bring the stage of the music up. try playing stereo non 5.1, then change the volume of the upper speakers min to max quickly and listen carefully. I don't know how the system delivers content to the upper speakers for 5.1. Try turning on the surround setting (which I never have on btw) and see if that makes it easier to hear. IF you have it on, turn it off.

I must say that the sound is incredible!
I now have an RDX 5.1 SS!

Again, a heart felt THANK YOU for the effort you put in so we can all enjoy the 5.1 SS..............(Super Sound).!

My impression is that assignment of signals to the overhead speakers is largely determined by the DTS Neural Sound circuit. How they behave in relation to discreet 5.1 inputs I do not know, since that defeats the DTS system. Regardless, critics have almost universally praised the system's sonic fidelity. At the moment since, I do not have rear speakers, it is better than my living room system.

I stumbled across this thread, while trying to get 5.1. music to play in my 2014 MDX (with an ELS Studio unit)

I have tried playing the sample files on my USB (formatted first with exFAT, then FAT32)
The unit won't recognise the files.


Any success by fellow memeber in playing 5.1 off a USB on a ELS Studio unit?

Yes, very successful, it sounds amazing. I had an old flash drive around, it already had some files on it, I just added these and they play beautifully.

Thank goodness! Perhaps you can walk me through it... there must be something I'm doing wrong.
The files provided by oblio98 play great on my computer in 5.1, but they aren't recognized by my MDX.

I put them in the root of the USB (which formatted with exFAT, and later FAT32) but they aren't recognized.

Any tips you could share?

both of mine are FAT32. I suggest maybe backing up the drive, reformatting, and putting back on drive. Do not have to be anywhere special on the USB drive. I have mine like so: /Pink Floyd/The Wall/<all the files listed> . all the artists are listed, then albums, then files in the album.
Now, I don't know about the 2014 MDX. If it cannot read 5.1 48/24 files, then you have a problem. Shoot me a compatibility list of formats for the MDX and I will reconvert and post for you. Has to be soon tho, my links are only good for few more days.
