Replacing the 2018-21 USB A ports to 2022+ USB C

I wonder if it is plug and play to replace some or all the usb a ports to the ports from the newer 2022 and up usb c. Who still uses usb a. Lol

Fom the EWD and service info, the connectors look similar so you can give it a try. Don't blame me if anything burns, as I did not check if the pins of the two USB port modules are compatible. I can take a second look later if I still have access.

BTW, I hope you are aware that the only benefit of doing this is the USB-C port itself. The charging speed and stability stay the same. For the troubles, I rather retrofit the upgraded cup holder.

I agree with you. All the new devices come with usb c. Looks like my kiddos are out of luck. Gotta dig up my old cables.

Seems like a lot of work over just going to Amazon and buying some USB-A Cables

upgraded cup holder? What changed in the latest MMC?

mvl 12-10-2022 02:05 PM

USB-C on the MMC supports the PD protocol, so it can charge laptops (slowly) or other devices like Pixels that require PD. But the builtin is still limited to 15 watts so I plug a PD 90 watt charger in the Cig lighter socket to charge my laptop.

I'd prefer if Acura just put recessed cig lighter sockets everywhere instead of USB, so you could just swap out to the latest charging adapters as the specs change/improve every couple years.

The cup holder now has tabs to hold cups securely, similar to the design on older Acuras or 22 MDX.

I had my USB outlet replaced this year (Mine is a 2019). I am using a 1TB USB-C thingie…it has a a USB-c on one side and a USB-A on the other. Aluminum case, sits solid in the new outlet. I use my 5.1 and FLAC files on this dongle exclusively….some great stuff in my old-man classic rock/progressive rock genres.

Fellow 2019 owner here. Why did you have it replaced, did it stop working or just become loose? Did you replace it with a USB-C or the OEM USB-A port?

Thanks!

I had some sloppy connection problems where any bump in the road would cause skipping in the music. The dealer agreed to replace the outlet and new wiring as a sound system warranty item. The replacement is the same USB-A receiving outlet. I am using USB 3.0 thumb drive which I described above. The drive is a 1TB USB-A/USB-C where I transfer my FLAC files from my Mac to the thumb drive via the USB-C and then playing them in our USB-A receptor in our amazing sound system. The few 5.1 files are also stored on this drive. My car calls the “USB Mass Storage Device” where the “USB 2.0 or 3.0”. This is something new to me but it does describe my source drive accurately. It is all working seamlessly as the aluminum case fits squarely against the outside of the car receptor. Perfectly clear sound and a good part of my music available in my car.

This is the drive I purchased on Amazon.

Thanks Dave, appreciate the response. I get the music skip from the loose port connection as well, looks like a visit to the dealership may be in order to get a port replacement performed.

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
