No way to name a destination???
My mom just picked up a 2019 RDX Advance to replace her old MDX and I was helping her add some navigation destinations into her address book. But wait, there is no address book....just "favorites". Okay, so let's enter my brother's lake house and add it as a favorite. No problem....but I don't see any way to put a name to the address I just saved as a favorite. Am I missing something? How could this be?
My very first factory navigation system was in my 2001 Acura CL. Since then, I've had factory navigation in at least 12 different cars, including my current Jeep and Audi. Every one of them allowed me to name my saved destinations.

So far, nobody has found a way to name favorites. Here is a link to a thread, which has another link:

The Nav system is fairly poor. We bought a 2018 Accord at the same time and its Garmin-based Nav system is superior in every way. Apple Maps is much better, but still not as good as Google Maps. Fortunately, Google Maps is coming to CarPlay with iOS 12. The infotainment unit in general has a lot of issues. Ours continues to skip when using CarPlay. Acura did tell me to expect an over the air update in the coming weeks. Hopefully, that will correct the issues.
In every other way, we find the vehicle to be outstanding.

2019 RDX Navigation
I am having second thoughts on this RDX. The Nav says doesn’t allow you to have an address book, or to name your destinations. No rerouting around traffic. Unable to zoom in or out on the map withoutout going to explorer. No Android Auto as promised by the dealer. 1/4 map resolution except on freeways, then only 3/8 mile. Looks like the company could at least address these concerns that the owners are questioning. What short of company doesn’t respond to their coustomers?

1. When entering route, my 2016 gives me 3 routes to choose from.
2. While driving, I can easily change the scale depending if I want to see details or long range.
3. I can store friends/family addresses in the address book.
If not, as much as I like everything I’ve read about 2019 RDX, I’m wondering if I should just keep what I have or shop for a different make. Not sure if this would be a deal-breaker or not. Thanks

So far, most competitors had problems when I shopped. The RDX has a poor nav. The X3’s I found all lacked the full suite ofdriving aids I wanted, even at a measurable premium. The XC60’s sensus system has far more complaints, the capacity behind the seats is low, and I just didn’t like how it drove, except for the seats. I didn’t want an Audi for lots of reasons.
I basically just use the nav as a scrolling map, and use Waze Or Google maps to navigate with.
I love how the RDX drives, love its utility, love the sound system, and quality of the interior. You can’t have everything, especially near this price point. Put everything the RDX has in an X3 and itis about $55K, but the iDrive infotainment system is better, IMO.

My $150 2-year-old Garmin has 10x more functionality and ease-of-use; its voice recognition works well 9 out of 10 times.
If Acura only purchased and used a cheap little Garmin, and spent a little extra effort on the RDX's nav system (and if
they fixed the infotainment bugs), I think more people would get the RDX over the competition.

I had similar concerns and posted on 7/19 in this forum under “Missing Navigation Functions Compared to 2016”. When I checked the latest reply was on I/27 if you want to search. But this is what I wrote:Seriously thinking of trading in my 2016 RDX for 2019 RDX. Local dealer does not have any for me to check out but I’m concerned that based on what I’ve read, some of the navigation features I have in my 2016 might not be available with the 2019. Does anyone know if any of these 2016 features are available on the 2019?
1. When entering route, my 2016 gives me 3 routes to choose from.
2. While driving, I can easily change the scale depending if I want to see details or long range.

2. No. Huge shortcoming. Never owned a navigation that didn't have this important feature.
3. No, but I go to phone and my addresses will come from my iphone.

I recently had an appt. with my dealership's technology specialist and he agreed that the new RDX's infotainment system leaves much to be desired.
I couldn't believe that I couldn't name nav favorites, but that's the way it is . . . .
Entering destinations via voice is also crazy. More often than not the system doesn't get the destination correct. So the best option for me now is to enter the destination on my Acuralink app and send it to the vehicle.
As someone mentioned above, the infotainment issues are ruining what otherwise is a great vehicle. I will also reevaluate in 2 years. On that topic, I was told yesterday by a senior Lexus tech that the '20 RX350 will get the new infotainment system currently in the '19 ES and '19 LS.

I have a specific question about the navigation unit and I figured this would be a good thread to post it in. Let's say I travel to a city that I'm not familiar with so I use the turn-by-turn view to see the streets up close. Now let's say I want to take a look at the surrounding area, so I want to zoom out on the map to see what's around me. Are you guys saying that the navigation in the RDX will not allow me to zoom out to get a different view? Like if I want to see how close I am to the ocean or something like that? Did I get that right? Or no? I'm trying to understand how this thing works.
Thanks.
Thanks.

You can zoom out to get a different view, though it's different than most other navs. While in nav mode you touch the touchpad and explore comes up on the map. Hit explore and the plus/minus shows on the right. Then hit the minus sign as many times as you want to zoom out. Also in that mode you can use two fingers on the touchpad to move the map around.

I would be. Trying to make the best of it. I'm ok with the touchpad, but the most frustrating thing to me, while driving, is the inability to zoom out where the vehicle indicator stays fixed and the map moves. Unfortunately this nav is just the opposite, the map stays fixed and the indicator will eventually move off the screen.

I got a call the end of November from my local dealer telling me that they got the trim and color combination in that I wanted. Although I liked everything else about the RDX, due to the navigation issues I mentioned above in my 11/3 reply to a post and the fact it took 5 months for the dealer to get the vehicle I wanted, I told him that I wasn’t interested at this time. For now I will keep my 2016 RDX where the nav system does everything I want it to.

When I actually need to navigate, I use Waze or Google Maps.

Random question for anyone that might know: When the clock is shown on the right side of the screen, is there any way to get rid of the word "clock"? I mean, I know it's a clock. I don't really need it to say the word "clock."

I agree that mechanically I love the ride & most features the 2019 RDX Advanced has, with exception of infotainment system. Besides the tremendous # of bugs & or quirks, to think it OK to design a NAV system with no way to name a destination’s address is outlandish. My $150 Tom Tom & Garmin from the 90’s had this very basic functionally. Also, not providing the ability to drag destination & phone favorites back or forward means the designers missed the mark, a HUGH mistake!!! If this is their latest & greatest, they need to WAKE UP!! Does anyone else feel like they are part of a “Beta Test” they did not sign up for when shelling out nearly $50k?
