New map is here

I use a PNY 32GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive formatted to MS-DOS (FAT) with a Master Boot Record Partition Map. Never had a problem downloading or installing the maps using this PNY drive.

3.0/3.1 drives are backwards compatible with 2.0. That shouldn't generally be an issue. You only get one notice on the car that the map update has started and no other notices. Always seems to take about an hour to complete and the car needs to be on or in accessory mode the whole time.
#123
I agree, LAJ, that 3.0 should be backward compatible, but twice I have had the car running for close to two hours with the 3.0 flash drive inserted, without success. I get a brief message that the map is updating, then nothing, and the map version is still the 2018.02.16 version. From this thread, others are having issues as well, so I wanted to share what I was told by the technical support folks.

Oh Man, I thought I was the only One. I have a 2022 MDX. I may be in the wrong Thread, but what the Heck. I was apprised of a new version by a poster on a different Forum. Never got a email notice as some have said they did. I successfully downloaded (with initial difficulty using a 2.0 Cheapo 32Gb FD). Then I learned to leave the car running to upload which took about 1 hour, some months ago. The new version at HERE for the MDX is 2021.10.04 mine is 2021.03.18. I downloaded the new Map using the same Cheapo FD Stick. Took forever as a 2.0. Plugged into the car's USB , the initial screen came up as Uploading new Map, then nothing. I thought it was the FD Stick. So I downloaded the program again on a SanDisk 3.0 stick. That downloaded Much Quicker. Plugged in to the car and nothing. Called HERE CS , the agent told me the following: The program has problems with PNY and SanDisk FDs; You must leave the car running but Stationary; and Shut off BT !! I told her none of that is on the web page or in the instructions. Other posters said they used SanDisks (128GB) and had no problems. So, I reformatted the SanDisk 32GB Stick and downlaoded the program again. Just plugged it in with car i Accessory Mode for 50 minutes. It still shows I have the older version. The most frustrating and Stupid things I've encountered. And HERE won't mail you an update - this is the only way to get it.

I do my updates when I go on a long drive. Takes about 1hr and 45mins. Only get the first message starting and then one once done. You may not even see the message, but it does update as long as the car is on. Never had a problem doing this and I done it 3 times already.

Thanks, Almatti. Quick question. What does “BT” stand for?
Blue tooth
But I think many of us did not turn off blue tooth and drove the car during maps updates and it worked just fine.
First suspect on map fail updates is the:
USB stick.
actual errors in the download done on the home computer. Thats the internet connection, computer, read/write to the disk etc

Success! One hour and about 5 minutes from start to finish. Not sure what combination of factors mattered, but I turned Bluetooth off, left the car running (but not driving), and used a no-name 2.0 Flash Drive versus the Sandisk 3.0 Flash Drive that I failed with twice. It seems the guidance of the Here Technologies tech support folks worked for me. Good luck to everyone, and as always, your mileage may vary.

Isn't this something?? Some people using Cheapo Drives (I tried 2X 2.0 took forever to download), and others have used SanDisk 3.0. I downloaded the program again on a SanDisk 3.0 Stick. I tried it for 50 minutes in Acc mode , BT off. No Dice. Now just driving around to see if it works. There is No way to check your status or if it's even being Uploaded Except for when you first Insert the Stick. I will make one more attempt to Re-insert my SanDisk 3.0 Stick, run the car for 60-7- minutes with BT Off to see if this works. When I upgraded to 2021.03.18 some months ago, on a 2.0 FD Stick 2.0, it took about 45 minutes with the car running and BT On.

Burning Brakes
I have used Sandisk a few times and never had an issue, despite Acura advising to not use them. I have used off-brand (Best Buy house brand) and also had no issues. BT was always on. Not having any visible measurement of how far along the download is seems to be the oddest issue.

Success!
Just updated my 2022 maps. Took about 45 minutes to download, and roughly the same to upload. Left the RDX in acc mode while uploading.
Being lazy, I bought a USB drive from Amazon that was already formatted in fat32, which I will set aside for future map updates.

I checked the HERE map site and there is a new update available, 2021.12.14
There were a couple of new things I noticed on the site. First was something about Connected Services, in red, that I don't recall seeing before. The link to the Installation Guide takes you to a much more detailed document that includes info about ensuring Connected Features is enabled and even includes instructions on how to format a greater than 32 GB USB drive as FAT32
After entering your VIN the page refreshes and your subscription end date is shown - something new, I believe - as well as the version of the map.
I have downloaded the files and will attempt an update later today.

How do you guys do that ---- attaching screen shots like that?
My observation of a change to the web site for the Navi update is when I inserted my Flashdrive (SanDisc 32GB), the initiated downloader detected the previous version on that disc, and asked me to delete that and then download the new version. That was new I think. I did that and it downloaded fairly quickly [about 45 minutes ] vs. previous attempts with the 2 other versions. Today I will Upload the new version in my MDX.

Downloaded the 2023.01.03 update last night. Downloaded in fifteen minutes. Installed in my 2019 RDX Advanced in one hour. Haven't noticed anything significantly different.

I purchased my 2020 on June 10 2019, and the free maps upgrades will expire on September 13 2023, so 4 years and 3 months. More in line with what DrWoo experienced (4 years 2 months)
Now that I am using a wireless Android Auto device, I certainly won't be paying for any future update.

Touring
Took me about 30 minutes. As usual, the instructions are vague in some areas. Installation took exactly 60 minutes, just like they said. Don't notice any differences.

I have a 2019 purchased 11/27/18. Acura map update site shows that free updates expired 2/27/23. Free updates good for 4 years and 3 months? Strange. I find the factory map convenient, but I'm not paying $119 for 1 year or $169 for 3 years.

Anyone try just leaving the USB plugged in for a week? I'm thinking this might be the easiest for my wife and I can check a week later if she happenned to drive long enough that the upgrade succeeded.
Wife uses wireless Android Auto, anyone know if the update disrupts wireless AA? Or any other downsides of just leaving the usb plugged in?

I guess that is fine. If it happenned to succeed early in the week, is it smart enough to not overwrite and try again if it stayed plugged in for the rest of the week?
Can wireless Android Auto fully function while updating?

When the map update is successful you will see a message on the screen:
Map Update Complete
Map update successfully completed. Restart the vehicle for
update to take effect
OK (button)
This typically stays displayed until you click OK. If you didn't see this, I suspect the update never completed.
Also, if it did succeed and you attempt to update the maps using the same USB files, you should see:
Map Update Error
Map update cannot proceed. Update files must be newer than
the current map version to continue.
OK (button)
If you get in the car, go to Navigation and put the USB in again, you should either see this error message or "Updating navigation map..."

Go to FM or USB or some other app on the screen and then back to Navigation and it will say Maps Are Updating. This is about the only way to check if the update process is progressing.

I need some help here, when USB with newly downloaded maps on it is inserted, a message shows on the screen for a few seconds that updating maps... and then it disappears ...should I wait now..is there a way to know if the maps are updating and should I leave the car in accessory mode or engine running?
Perhaps it will help.
One point of clarification in that reply.
"Next, I turn the vehicle off and close and shut the driver's door..." should be
"Next, I turn the vehicle off and open and shut the driver's door..."

Same here. Anyone else get an "Internet Connection Lost" error between parts 1 and 2 of the download. It happens every time to me. Then wonder if the download is blown for the next hour it takes to finish. It doesn't seem to cause any problems.

I did not see anything but….
At the time the last map update came out a year or 2 ago, it was free for me. I could not get it to download no matter how many times I tried. Map company “Here” wanted to charge me for the last update & I did not want to pay for it. Especially since I paid for an update for my last 2014 RDX & did not notice any changes. I’ve been using either the old map version or maps like waze & connecting it by Apple play & it working great. It’s a free app & they often update their maps at no charge.

Hmmm. I'm confused.
I got the email today as well that a new map update was available. I went to the Here site and the version available is 2023.03.14 as you found. However, I downloaded that version last August! That is the version I'm currently using in my RDX. Perhaps they were premature in sending out the email and the newer version will be available shortly.

Why use Acura navigator?
Serious question, given that there are other choices that never need updating. Google maps, Apple Maps; I prefer Waze because of real time police updates, red light and speeding cameras, pot holes, etc. and it never needs updating.
