TSB 21-016 - Safety Recall: Multi-Model Fuel Pump Motor
#3
Sound like the "limp mode" fix for 2019 RDX's. Even the wording is almost the same:
Service Bulletin 21-016: (http://www.urvi.net/forumfiles/SB/B21-016.PDF)
"Due to swelling of the fuel pump motor impeller, the fuel pump may seize and stop working. If this occurs, the check engine light may be displayed with DTC P0087 (Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low) stored, the engine may not start, or the engine could stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash"
VS
Service Bulletin 20-026: (http://www.urvi.net/forumfiles/SB/B20-026.PDF) (https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...letins-970256/)

The difference here that it says "Safety recall", and they also say that it depends on VIN# for which dealer will use some program called "In Vin" to determine if it applies to a car or not. I guess they can't even tell by VIN number unless they plug your car into their computer?

Again? Wasn't there already a fuel pump recall? I had it done last year.

No, the limp mode fix was for the replacement of the intercooler and a software upgrade to the fuel injection system. I had that done a few weeks ago.

Did dealer ask if you had issues with limp mode? It seems its only replaced if you complain.
I have nor had this happen, so I am debating if I want them to take apart my car and mess/scratch something up

I strongly emphasized I wanted this done by my dealer but they refuse unless it occurs and there is a code which is bs

I did experience limp mode once, it was over 2 years ago and I did take it in afterwards. There was no code, but I had a documented experience, and I did report it to the NHTSA. Service manager did ask if it happened since then, I said no because if I’m driving in the rain I take it slow because I’m afraid it might happen again. They had my 19 for 3 days to order the parts and do the fix. I do think the accelerator is much more responsive now. There used to be a slight delay when you hit the gas in comfort mode.

Does not look like limp mode fix will become a recall, and from what I am hearing the dealers are not too eager to do it either...
how is that that fuel pump is a safety issue, but limp mode is not?

Agreed, I don’t get it either. Glad I didn’t get pushback from my dealer, but I guess in my case they couldn’t say no since I had an instance. I’ve been nervous driving on the highway in heavy rain ever since it happened. Now that it supposedly has been fixed, I was much calmer driving on the highway in a downpour last week.

I got notified of this via my AcuraLink for my 2019 RDX just a couple of days back. I talked with my local dealer on this. I got the impression there was an expansion of the VIN range on which cars they were doing. I was also told they couldn't book me in just yet as they had not received the needed parts yet. Another comment was that this problem was not being noticed locally (mid-West) or on the East coast. Their line was that the fuel sold out West had a higher sulfur content and that made the problem show up in a greater number of vehicles.
Do I believe any of this? I don't know. I do know that in two weeks I have a 2000+ trip to make and with my dumb luck that is when it will crap out, or not! My service advisor has been very good, but she had bad information on the brake noise back when that was a problem, telling me she had not heard of it. So, do I buy into her story about the "out West fuel causes this" I don't know.

Has anyone received a Recall Notice who already had their Fuel Pump replaced last year? Mine was replaced last June on my 2019 Advance and the reason for replacement (20-026) appeared to be the same as the current TSB 21-016.

I found information on the NHTSA site indicating the recall should begin May 18, 2021, and this is an expansion of the previous recall.
