Transmission while slowing down
Hey folks,
3 weeks in, here’s my first question about our car. When I am driving 55 down the road and let off the gas pedal to slow down, everything is like normal. Car coasts and naturally slows down, I apply brake to slow down. Then as it gets down to 35 and below, you can feel a dragging from the transmission. Because the dragging changes with the transmission downshifting. Ya know what it feels like, it feels like an electric car regenerative braking. So i dont’ have to brake as hard slowing down. I have been leaving it to “break’ in” (if that even exists anymore).
I think I have heard the “dash noise” under the HUD that folks have talked about. It happens when its a sharp bump i go over, which i avoid.
other than that, I haven’t been pushing things.

Yep, had the same thing. It goes away eventually. I had it for a few thousand miles if memory serves correctly.
Don't have a HUD (A-Spec), but there's rattle a-plenty in my interior from all over the interior. Embrace them. They're part of your life now. Be one with the shitty build quality. Woosah. And never pay close to MSRP for an Acura again, grasshoppa-san.

I wouldn't put too much worry into it. There will always be "something" with every vehicle.
As far as HUD dash noise, as an Advance owner with HUD I've heard nothing after almost a year, and I've gone over many bumps in the road and my fair share of parking lot speed bumps. No rattles. Nada. It's tight.
As far as the break-in period, you'll get as many opinions on this as there are owners of every vehicle on earth, but my break-in period consisted of driving my fresh, new 15-mile odometer read on I-5 from Portland to Seattle and I did not stay under 60 MPH. The car is so comfortable I was doing 80 at one point and didn't know it. The owners manual does say to avoid towing a trailer during the first 600 miles break-in period which I sort of understand, and there may be another blurb about a break-in period in the manual but it's all up to you.
Enjoy your RDX.

I think the amount of “drag” depends on the drive mode; it comes from the transmission keeping itself in the right give you quick acceleration should you desire it. Comfort would drag least, then Sport and Sport +.

i am in comfort. But not gonna worry about it. If the dealer doesn’t care I won’t.

Yeah I don’t worry about it either, anymore. It’s one of the things that contributes to poor City MPG but I’ve given up on obsessing about it, or maybe it happens less nowadays with the “learning” transmission. But I definitely noticed it early on because it wasn’t true with my previous car.
