A-Spec Exhaust Tip Cleaning

Hi all,

I love the exhaust tips on my A-Spec but man do they get dirty fast! How often you you need to wipe out the inside of the black/carbon build up? I use a wet paper towel 2x a week usually but with a day or two they get pretty dirty.

Does anyone recommend some good cleaning products for stainless tips that you use? I got the car late August and the previous owner/pre-sale detailing clearly ignored cleaning these well. Come spring I need to really give them a good polish.

I use "Meguiar's G211606 Metal Polish - 6 Oz Container" to polish the Aspec exhaust (outside and inside) about once every other month. Best metal, stainless steel and aluminum polish out there. Then apply a couple of coats of 'Nexgen Ceramic Spray Silicon Dioxide" (which is hands down, the best ceramic spray coating I've ever used) - mine look better than new after 3 years. Easy to wipe out after each wash.

On the "Nexgen Ceramic Spray Silicon Dioxide spray coating", just did a deep DIY home detail after 3 years with the RDX - with claybar (Adams medium grade clay bar kit), orbital polisher with orange then blue pad (double passed to eliminate any haze) with "Griots COMPLETE POLISH" and several coats of Nextgen Ceramic Spray. Results were amazing, removed 85+% of the fine swirl marks (leaving plenty of clear coat for future deep details), added a lot of depth to the paint and the spray ceramic coating last a long time (plus I refresh after every was - slickest paint I've every owned - can apply to all windows too (though RainX is my go to for exterior windows).

I use Nevr Dull ( ) to keep the tips clean(-ish). It helps to spray some ceramic coating on it as well.

Diluted Simple Greenin a Spray Bottle and a Microfiber Towel works for me. Apply when needed. Repeat as often as is necessary.

Get them painted black, then they won't look dirty. :D

This is exactly what I use to keep mine clean. Works fantastically.

Outstanding! That's also what I use to keep my alloy wheels and tires looking like new.

I meant carb cleaner.

Thanks for all the tips!

How often do you need to clean them? Mine get dirty fast, could they be getting dirtier faster this time of year since I remote start and warm my car up 1-2 times a day? Perhaps sitting at idle with minimal exhaust flow lets the carbon build up more.

Cleaning the exhaust tips is really a YMMV sort of thing. I inspect my exhaust tips and clean them with diluted Simpler Green in a Spray Bottle and a Microfiber Towel at least once a week or sooner, if needed. Good luck.

Ok sounds about how often I need to wipe them down!

I use P&S Brake Buster and the large EZ Detail brush to clean the outside and inside of the exhaust tips. When deposits form, I first spray with iron, then polish with P&S Metal Brite and finally use Dr. Beasleys Metal Coat. seems to work well and hold up to the elements. (NOTE: I'm in SoCal so basically no snow and not much rain ever)
