Registration Cost
Just got my first registration renewal in the mail for our 2021 RDX. Comes to a little over $700 for one year. That's in Arizona. Just curious what others pay in their states.

$85 in Wisconsin with some counties add $25 “wheel tax” for total of $110.
No personal property tax on vehicles in Wisconsin. Property tax on vehicles can run the bill up quick and it’s the gift that keeps on giving. It particular painful on leasing since you don’t own the car but pay the tax bill every year.

Most cars and SUV costs $151 to register in Illinois. Title fee is $150, but you pay that once. Electric cars cost $251 to register, so not that terribly bad, but the state enjoys one of the most expensive gas prices so you get that.

AZ is stupid expensive. My 550i was close to $1000 when I lived in Chandler. I used to cringe when registration renewal time came around.
Now in NM, $64 max charge and it goes down as the vehicle ages.

One thing I have learned in AZ, Hondas and Acuras tend to be more expensive to license than the comparable equipped competition, as they sell them as "Trim Levels". The fees here are based on the base price, so a different brand may have the same bottom line price on the car, say $50,000 but might have $20,000 in options and packages, so the fees will be based on $30,0000 rather than $50,000. BIG difference.

Pennsylvania passenger car registration is $39 per year. If you’re retired like me, you can pay a $10 administration fee and get the registration for free.
I remember Arizona being expensive way back in 1980. When I transferred a $24 New Jersey registration to Arizona, it was over $500. I thought they were kidding.. They weren’t.

Yes, I do the same in AZ! My 2nd renewal here for my '19 Advance was $594.47. First renewal was $701.61.

Well, in AZ, the actual registration fee is $8. Then there's a $1 fee to mail the sticker and a fee for 'air quality'. The rest, about $700 in my case, is considered a tax and is labelled as such on the registration form. It's basically the same as a personal property tax but isn't called that. It can be deductible on your income tax. So to be fair, I guess in other states you gotta take other property taxes on the car, if any, into account when you compare the amounts. When we lived in Virginia many years ago, the car registration was reasonable, IIRC, but then there was a separate personal property tax plus you had to have a county (Fairfax) sticker (tax), etc. So it added up to quite bit even tho it didn't show up on your actual registration form.
Oh well...I guess that's what you get when you buy a luxury car...

Just checked - total for my RDX is $179, $34 of which is NYMA. I had to google that: NY Metropolitan Area. Again, that's for 2 years.
Another "We're-the-governmen-and-we-can-do-whatever-the-fuck-we-want" tax. But I gotta admit, I can't believe what some of you pay.

Here in Kentucky we pay personal property taxes on our vehicles. To be fair, the taxes on my house are less than some other places but then they make it up on the cars. I think my RDX might be $700 or so total for the taxes and all the fees but that number drops as the car ages, based on depreciation. My little 2015 Honda Fit is only $123 total and my 2017 Suzuki DL650 motorcycle is like $75.

I paid about $700 for all three vehicles. The cost on the RDX for fees and taxes was more like $480. Sorry...

I believe my renewal was around $1400 here in the crappy state of Virginia. We also get taxed on the full price of a new car, even when you have a trade-in. Oh and I pay about $1500 a year in tolls. Oh and we have to hassle with both emissions AND safety inspections, get an ugly window sticker, and have front license plates. Virginia is hell for car owners.

No front plate, no yearly inspections, no ugly window stickers, and NO Tolls! AND, we only pay sales tax on the difference when trading in! Let's hear it for AZ!

But, aren't you running out of water?

Happy in GA with no ugly front tags or window stickers here either. The tax is paid upon registration of the vehicle the first time here and just $25 a year afterwards. Need an emissions test annually in metro Atlanta after the first three years but those are $10-$25 and take all of 5 minutes to complete.

$405 here in the 808.
