RDX Type-E?

Acura teased the Acura Precision EV this week, with the official announcement coming next week on the 18th. It's a mid-size crossover apparently sharing the Ultium platform with the Cadillac Lyriq. Car sites seem to think it's coming 2024 model year, but that seems optimistic to me. More like coming in 2024 as a 2025 model year, especially if it's replacing the RDX, since that would be about the time for the next generation.

2024 model year seems optimistic, but most of the heavy lifting has been done, so it's possible we'll see it late next year or early 2024.
Regarding the name, everyone seems to think it'll wear an ADX badge. I know ADX has recently been trademarked, but Acura could simply be reserving the name without immediate plans to use it. It's also possible that Acura is planning their own version of the HR-V, which could be badged AVX. I'd personally be fine with them keeping the Precision name. Or better yet, bring back Legend or Vigor. ZDX is an option, too.

I think it may be called the ADX, but just a rumor name right now. I think Acura will keep the RDX,TLX,MDX until 2027, but launch the ADX in late 2024 to offer some type of EV for the market. Honda is still working on 2 or 3 EV platforms I believe, not sure if some or all will be with GM but looks around 2026-2027. Would make sense to move all of Acura over by then.

Nice. Generally, I like it. Not a huge fan of the roof trim line duping in a way that resembles the old MDX, which was a bad design that I thought Acura wanted to move away from. Also, the grill is cool with the LEDs but when they're off it looks weird. It would be better if it wasn't color matched. But I guess this is just a design concept that will be revised before production, so we'll have to wait and es it develops.

I don't understand why automakers (not just Acura) still put out these crap ultra-futuristic, completely impratical concepts that are nowhere near what the production vehicle will look like. Friggin' Dodge of all companies actually released quite an appealing Challenger EV concept that literally looks like it's production ready, with likely only a few tweaks. The car will look somewhat close once put into production. This Precision EV is anything but. From the looks, it's basically going to be a smoother MDX with fake grilles when it actually comes to market. And the interior is completely pointless ... it makes a Tesla's interiors appear "busy." Worthless concept.

It looks like the model that will be built with GM in TN will be called the ZDX.
- First full-electric model coming to market in 2024 will be a performance SUV called the Acura ZDX
- Acura Type S performance variants will continue to put the driver experience first in the electrified future with ZDX Type S
The ZDX will be the first production model to feature many of the styling themes of the new Acura design direction introduced during Monterey Car Week in the form of the Acura Precision EV Concept. The ZDX is being co-developed with GM utilizing the highly flexible global EV platform powered by Ultium batteries. Acura then will launch additional EV models starting in 2026 based on the company’s own global e:Architecture.

It's just a concept to show off design cues for future cars; it doesn't mean every new EV Acura will look like a boat. I mean it could but I doubt it.

Why...it's the same platform with the same innards. I am quite frankly disappointed that Acura is partnering with GM for EVs. I will reserve judgement for now until I understand the partnership more.

Much like it's a PITA to try to get a Supra serviced at a Toyota dealership, I can see it becoming a huge hassle to get a ZDX serviced at an Acura dealership. Presumably the Lyriq is going to be a better value (and maybe even better car). I doubt they would agree to build a car for Honda that is better than their own car.

Only if there are only a handful of dealers left after this shortage of new vehicles carnage. Local Acura dealer said they only got 4 new vehicles in July and cut the staff to the bare bones. So little details and so much will change in 2 years.

When you outsource the battery pack in an electric vehicle, you are putting yourself in a very precarious position. Cadillac is having a difficult time producing their Lyriqs. If this problem continues will Cadillac be willing to give up Lyriq production in favor of Acura production? I dont think so.

The lower production number of GM Ultium EVs seem to be battery-supply related, as Ultium just entered volume production in Aug/Sep with one US factory. Another (larger) one will be online next year to provide the volume needed for Honda/Acura in 2024. Looking forward to ZDX, as it seems closer to RDX than MDX in spirit I think.
Partnering with GM on Ultium probably makes sense from economy of scale for GM, and from time to market for Honda. Honda also should learn a few things from GM about SW-defined architecture, and apply that for their own EV architecture.

I'm sure most of you have seen the spy pics of the production ZDX, but here's a sampling for those who have not ...
Precision EV Concept
ZDX Prototype 1
ZDX Prototype 2
ZDX Prototype 3
Production 2024 Honda Prologue
I think Acura is going to have a difficult time outdoing the very handsome Prologue, which IMO is the best looking Ultium-based crossover to date. And it has a full array of real buttons, and an intuitive Mercedes-style column shifter.
