Cool 2021 RDX PMC Edition-Thermal Orange Pearl

I just took a look at the newly posted 2021 Acura RDX Accessory Installation Instructions and there is a 2021 RDX PMC trim level listed in Thermal Orange Pearl when you get down to the touch-up paint section!! Could this be the mythical combination of A-Spec and Advanced features that many folks were hoping for?

Will be interested to see the price if that’s the real PMC edition like the TLX and MDX

The 2021 Acura RDX Owner's Manual contains five instances of "models with PMC emblem on the console", so it looks like a PMC Edition will be available at some point.

The 2021 Acura Passenger Vehicle VIN Information lists the RDX PMC Edition under 7 in Equipment Trim Level, so it is confirmed.

Well now we know why there's no Type-S RDX yet. Can't imagine a whole lot of folks would rather pay $55K+ for a PMC instead of a Type-S.

Isn't that just a manual sprayed variant instead of sprayed on the assembly line? I am searching for a "who cares" emoticon, but to each his own I guess.

I started wondering if this generation will have a shorter run to have Type-S variant in the next gen. Or maybe they just need to find something for the PMC crew?

I don’t really get PMC. It’s like Acura is admitting that their other factory built cars are not good, and if you really want a good car you have to get the PMC.

My slightly askew hatch agrees with this statement.

Not necessarily! But it would be cool if they add more power, better suspensions and etc to call it PMC. But changing the colour and darken certain area doesn’t make a car performance.

Don’t tell that to the people who bought an A-Spec

Basically, this will be the Advanced or Platinum Elite in Canada with A-SPEC package. I love this color.

I think it will have HUD, adaptive dampers, and a few tech that were missing in an A-SPEC. Of course some one or two new colors.

Is it the same color they use on the NSX?

Looks sweet. If I was in the market for a new car I'd consider it, but I don't think it would be worth trading in my current car for this.

From Acura USA press release:

"The RDX PMC Edition is the most well equipped RDX variant, combining the top-shelf features from the RDX Advance Package with the aggressive and sporty styling cues of the RDX A-Spec. Exclusive to the RDX PMC Edition are gloss black 20-inch alloy wheels; a body color grille surround; black chrome exhaust finishers; and gloss-black treatment for the roof, side mirrors and door handles. As with previous PMC Edition models, Acura’s industry leading torque vectoring Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) is standard equipment.

The RDX PMC Edition’s Thermal Orange Pearl exterior is complemented on the inside with color-matched orange stitching for the seats, center console, door panels, steering wheel and floor mats. Mixing A-Spec style with the Advance Package’s premium touches, the RDX PMC edition features a 10.5-inch color Head-Up Display, 16-way power Sport Seats trimmed in Ebony Milano leather and Ultrasuede®, heated steering wheel and heated outboard rear seats.

Bringing RDX PMC Edition to Life
The 2021 Acura RDX follows the unique formula established with the TLX and MDX PMC Edition models. Once the body-in-white arrives at PMC, each RDX PMC Edition is finished in Thermal Orange Pearl paint, a striking premium paint offered on NSX since 2019. The paint is applied using PMC's advanced robotic paint system in multiple base coats to enhance color intensity. Next a mid-coat of gold and orange mica is applied giving off a pearlescent effect in the sunlight. Lastly, four layers of clearcoat are applied to increase the paint's luster and protect the finish. Each PMC Edition undergoes the same meticulous hand inspection process given to the NSX. The total time in paint, including curing, is five days.

Immediately following the paint process, PMC master technicians begin hand assembly, starting with installation of all drivetrain and chassis components, wiring harnesses and electronics. Once completed, the PMC Edition 20-inch wheels and tires and exterior trim are added. The final step in the process is to fit the vehicle with its unique interior including an individually numbered serial plate affixed to the RDX’s center console.

After completing the hand assembly process, every RDX PMC Edition undergoes an identical quality control process as NSX, which includes a full electronic systems line-end test, expert wheel alignment, dyno run, water-leak test and final paint examination. Before exiting PMC, each vehicle is wrapped in a protective film and loaded onto an enclosed, single-car carrier for transport to an Acura dealer.

2021 RDX PMC Edition U.S. Feature Summary

Exclusive to RDX PMC Edition
  • Thermal Orange Pearl paint
  • Unique PMC Edition numbered serial plate
  • Gloss black 20-inch split-5-spoke wheels with black lug nuts
  • Gloss black roof panel with panoramic moonroof
  • Gloss black door handles
  • Gloss black Diamond Pentagon grille with body color grille surround
  • Gloss black door mirrors with auto-dimming
  • Dual black chrome exhaust finishers
  • Ebony Milano leather sport seats with black Ultrasuede® inserts and orange stitching
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel with, A-Spec badge and orange stitching
  • Premium floormats with metal A-Spec badging and orange stitching"

I guess Subaru no longer has a monopoly on pumpkin-themed crossovers.

Remember when you could always spot the base version of a car by its black door handles, wheels, and mirror caps? Not really digging the attempt to make it cool.

And the black wheels because the hub cap fell off!

Bloody hell, Acura. If the future of Acura lineups is basically telling your customers that if you want both the Advance/Platinum Elite + A-Spec/Type-S trims, pony up for the expensive PMC edition. Acura sure knows how to rain that golden shower on their customers.

They are only building 360 of them. My guess is dealers won't be willing to deal on price.

The limited numbers and exclusivity of this is even a bigger kick to the nuts for customers that just want a non-PMC Advance/Elite A-Spec.

Acura Reveals 2021 RDX PMC Edition in Stunning Thermal Orange Pearl Paint

September 22, 2020 — TORRANCE, Calif.
  • 2021 RDX PMC Edition follows TLX and MDX to be hand-built alongside NSX at Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC)
    • Combining A-Spec and Advance Package features, PMC Edition sits atop the RDX lineup, distinguished by retina-searing supercar paint
      • Production of the exclusive RDX PMC Edition limited to just 360 units

Acura’s top-selling SUV over the last two years gains a healthy dose of NSX supercar DNA with the creation of the 2021 RDX PMC Edition, the fourth vehicle hand assembled by master technicians at Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Center (PMC) in Ohio. Only 360 units of the RDX PMC Edition will be built for the North American market, each bathed in stunning Thermal Orange Pearl paint shared with the electrified NSX supercar. The range topping RDX PMC Edition will carry a sticker price in the low $50,000s1 when the first customer deliveries begin this October.

The RDX PMC Edition is the most well equipped RDX variant, combining the top-shelf features from the RDX Advance Package with the aggressive and sporty styling cues of the RDX A-Spec. https://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?...tem_id=1427867 Temple of VTEC says it's there. It combines the best of both A-Spec and Advance so it's a 16 way ventilated seat and also has the adaptive dampers.

Wonder if Canada is getting any of these? My wife would probably murder me for trading in for one of these but I can dream.

IMO the NSX wears that orange a lot better than the RDX.

The word "poser" springs to mind. Needs a lot more firepower to fly that flag.

Some would say A-Spec is already poser-spec, so might as well go big with the color too.
