Petition to allow the infotainment screen to be used as full screen on the 2019+ Acu

http://chng.it/fxywZxg7XP

Hey guys, I recently leased an RDX and have become dismayed with the size of the usable screen. Other luxury brands give access to the full screens. My phone screen is the same size as the maps on android auto. With how easy they have made it to push updates maybe they can work out a way to do it. I have made my suggestion in the petition. Please share!

Got my vote! That would be awesome! Though, your snapshot shows ACP so you probably won't care much for AA. But fixing the buggy AA / infotainment would be higher priority. No point of having a full screen when the thing is buggy as heck.

Thanks! I just chose a picture to show how almost have the screen is just for an album art. But you're right I've noticed a few bugs when using AA. Like not being able to click on different routes in gmaps.

That’s OK. The RDX is my wife’s vehicle, I only drive it on the weekends. My 2020 Lexus that I drive during the week uses the whole screen for Car Play.

You got my vote. Acura is notoriously stubborn about acknowledging its faults and making changes to accommodate its customers. I'd really appreciate it if they made this change.

I'm also skeptical that they would make this change. It would be a big software change, and would require them to release another addendum to documentation. It would render the second thin touchpad on the right pretty useless in that mode, so they would then need to make a configurable option to enable/disable the cards display when in CarPlay or AA. This is what would then allow for full screen. With great respect to the OP, I don't know that a petition is going to mean a thing to these guys, even if you get 100 people to sign it. Forums like this are not well regarded by execs in companies in my personal experience and opinion, as they are viewed as echo chambers of discontent and the vocal minority of their customers. I would instead suggest that you send a well written and polite email to the execs (otherwise known as executive email carpet bomb) to lay out your case as for why this would be a valuable feature for their RDX customers. You are most likely to curry favor by appealing to their pocketbook, so I would make my case by providing examples of direct competitors to the RDX or to Acura providing the full widescreen CarPlay and AA and have it be a distinguishing feature or feature parity with the competition. If enough people take this route and the decision makers hear enough of it, I think this is where you could possibly see some change. Acura isn't going to muck with the system to make it "cool" but they might do it to increase sales.

When you say “Other luxury brands give access to the full screens”, what is their aspect ratio compared to our RDX? I like to think that we have 2 screens, not just one, and I can have Sirius XM showing on the right screen while using Apple Carplay on the left.

It's a similar widescreen to what we would have if Carplay took the whole screen. Your use case is why I pointed out above it would need to be configurable. Want cards? You get normal Carplay screen. No cards? Full width CarPlay screen and the touchpad on the right doesn't function when CarPlay is active.

Couple examples of what full screen width CarPlay looks like, for reference.. So don't get me wrong, it's a worthy endeavor and it would be cool if I could do it. But I also don't feel SO strongly about it that I feel heartache at having normal CarPlay screen and the cards to the right.

I do believe they will be pushing hard to correct these infotainment features in the future since it seems their entire line up will have the same if not similar infotainment setups.

Based on these leaks : https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2...leaked-photos/

The new TLX and MDX will be using the same setup which is good news since they'll have to rectify these issues since it affects a large portion of their line up.

sure, but in the next generation, pretty sure this change will not happen in a simple software update.

i think the stupidest use of screen space is when backing up on the Advance (with the 360 camera). it squeezes the reverse camera and the 360 view onto the left screen, while showing a useless graphic on the right screen. the two obviously don't have enough space, so the reverse camera is shrunk down to fit, which makes it hard to see. but that useless graphic gets a pretty good share of screen space. i don't know who at Acura thought that made any sense. they're so devoted to the split screen that they sacrifice your ability to see backwards when backing up?
