This is excellent advice, but I would advise going no faster than 5 mph when implementing it. This will allow the guys that take up all the tables because they’re too cheap to rent an office to escape without injury.
Oh, you mean the WiFi squatters. Do you think they would even notice? I don't think I've ever seen one look up from their laptop.
but they make it back when I spend happy hour there on fridays while my kids are at their activities up the street. I get work done and start the weekend. Two birds, two IPAs
I have what is called the earlier software 1.04, am registered with both Link and Owners and am 2.5 months of ownership and no email from them on the upgrade.. Two of two service writers were clueless at dealer...hope you are right and can just do it on your own.
My experience is that service advisors at dealerships know nothing about this system, are completely unable to troubleshoot them, have received zero training and in my experience, are a bit hostile towards customers when we ask questions about it...I had one guy at OC Acura actually get upset with me when I was trying to tell him it is based on Android, etc. etc.... it troubles me that dealerships know nothing about this system that basically runs the entire car.
Has anyone with a November build - as indicated by 11/18 at the top of the MFD. BY HONDA OF AMERICA MFG., INC. label on the driver's B-pillar - gotten the initial email? And yes - I have an account at owners.acura.com
Just wondering if my November build RDX already has the updated software. If so - looks like no Android Auto.
Thanks
Based on what we know...you connect to your WiFi network and then, through the infotainments menu, you select "updates" and it will show up and you select download. It is supposed to be that easy...we'll all know in the next few days:wink:

I do not believe that AA is a part of this upgrade as Google and Acura are still researching how to implement via the new tough pad based on what I was told by their client relations folks. However, we have all received such misinformation over the last several months that I'm not sure if anyone really knows until it actually happens.
i have a feeling android auto will not happen on this update.i think Acura would have pumped it that it was on its way we shall see .
Same here...

They've got much bigger fish to fry.
I hope I'm wrong and an Android Auto update arrives soon for those who would like to use it, but I'll believe it when I see it.
I got an email which said the following and pointed to a link on owners.acura.com

Did you know your RDX can connect to WiFi? Connect to the network of your choice nearest to your RDX and complete a one-time set up to receive future software updates. Once set up is complete, you’ll be ready to take advantage of new features, bug fixes and more anytime an update is available. We’re here to help you get the most from every drive.

The above link has instructions for how to connect the car to WiFi.
That's the first of two e-mails that were allegedly going to precede the rollout of the OTA update. This is based upon an internal Acura memo, now posted in a sticky thread by EE4Life.
Since there was no disclosure to the motoring public that these e-mails were forthcoming, I guess Acura isn't breaking any promises if they don't appear. I just hope the darn update appears!

Agree! As long as we see the update tomorrow I could care less about the email communications. However those communications might be more valuable to owners that haven’t been on this site and aren’t aware of this update even coming out.
I'm bored, so I re-read the original posted memo and saw Acura should be posting something to the owners.acura.com site, so I dug around there a bit and found this:
But while I was on the owners.acura.com site, I dug around in e-mail prefs and discovered that there is a specific checkbox to receive e-mails for "Acura Navigation Center (Navigation System Updates)". It's under E-mail Communication Preferences in a pane on the upper left of the "My Account" home page.
I just got the information below off of my USB stick after setting it up to get the download.
It was a update_by_usb.json file in the "rb" folder. Also there is a URL link to the upgrade website which obviously shows no software update available.
Even more interesting is the TCU firmware. AFAIK that would be Transmission Control Unit. I remember a comment awhile ago from someone seemingly in-the-know who said updates were being delayed because testing needed to be done on anything that might affect fuel economy. And I couldn't quite figure out how the heck infotainment software could affect fuel economy. But transmission controls could certainly affect fuel economy.
But my very fuzzy understanding is that the data that's loaded onto the USB thumb drive from the vehicle is an "inventory" of current versions of potentially upgradeable firmware. AFAIK they won't necessarily all be upgraded during any given upgrade cycle.
Apparently the telematics unit also goes by Telematics Control Unit or TCU, which makes a bit more sense than the transmission being upgradeable over-the-air. Wishful thinking...
has anyone received the scheduled OTA update yet ??
The infotainment system updates panel shows no updates. I checked it on my way out this morning. But it is still early. From what I can tell is that the 12th was relayed to the Acura dealer service managers in that memo pasted at the top of the thread and not to customers directly. So it is conceivable that it could have been pushed back with the dealers notified but we would not know. It is also conceivable that they are releasing it to dealers a few days before releasing it directly to customers so they can try it on a few vehicles in their inventory and provide feedback. I have no inside information on that though. The only communication I got from Acura recently was an email on how to set up for future updates without any specificity as to the date. I will probably just wait a couple of days and see if I get a message somehow on the infotainment system that it is available before going back into system updates to check.
Just checked and message said my system was up to date but then it continued to show activity and another message said that I could not update over Wi-Fi at this time and to try later. So it looks like there is something out there but it's not available just yet. I can try updating with a USB drive but the system does not say how big the drive needs to be so I cancelled out of that option.
Just checked... no updates available yet. Even tried multiple times after some random options selection .. but still same message for no update available.
I was hoping it would fix the ability to interact with navigation while on a phone call, but doesn't look like it has. I cannot even cancel a navigation route when I'm on a call!
I'm trying to open the full TSB, but Honda's site isn't cooperating right now. It's usually very slow (like...dial-up speeds), but it's not responding at all right now.
