New LED headlight is awesome
Got the car for one week, but this is first time driving when it’s really dark outside. When I first experience with led headlight from 2nd generation, it’s dim compared to HID. Now 2019 has improved headlight a lot. Between 2019 and 2017 it’s day and nigh, very bright and really wide. I also love the blue hint at the cutoff line which doesn’t exist in my 2017. the auto high beam also works great. |
Thanks for the insight. I've been in cars with early LED headlights which seemed very white but didn't provide adequate illumination. You mention that the 2019 LEDs are much better than the 2017, but how do they compare to a good HID projector? Its kinda hard to see this for yourself on a test drive, since the dealerships tend to be closed by the time it gets really dark.

Regards.. I retrofitted LS460 projector into CRV in the past and I say it is brighter than LS460 but LS460 shines a bit wider. i don’t have problem with street sign and corner turn is no problem. |

I've also done the retrofit thing with an aftermarket Morimoto HID projector in a BMW E36 which is much better than the reflector based HID in my 2002 Lexus RX300 (The Lexus reflector HIDs aren't particularly bright or wide, my Morimotos are brighter and much wider with a sharp cutoff). If I may ask another question, how are the high beams? Thanks |
I drove my new ride for the first time tonight in total darkness. The low beams, especially with the fog lights on, illuminate the road and the sides better than any vehicle I’ve ever driven. The high beams are amazing, although I did notice some speed limit signs Were so brightly illuminated I couldn’t even read the speed limit. The auto dimming brights works beautifully |

If I may ask another question, how are the high beams? Thanks i have my headlight assembly replaced this Friday. Hope they didn’t break anything during surgery my front end. I will then ask them to adjust headlight to norm. I think most are set a bit high at delivery. I just don’t want to blind people. Anybody feels headlight a bit high? |

I thought of this thread earlier tonight and tried to get some pictures of the lights. It wasn’t fully dark yet outside. First picture is a little blurry but shows how far the light goes down the road. Second is clearer, but the road was going up a bit so the lights don’t look like they go down the road as far. Looking at Pnoi521's second picture, you can see excellent light control where the beam doesn't project as far in the left oncoming lane as it does in the lane directly in front and to the right. This maximizes the illumination for the driver without blinding oncoming traffic, unlike many cars I pass nightly and I'm sitting higher in an SUV, (I'm looking at you Chrysler 300, among others). This is very similar to the european E-Code retrofit HIDs that I have on my e36 with light levelers.
According to one of the crash testing organizations (I forget which), most cars on the road have inadequate headlights, so they are beginning to rate the adequacy of the headlights along with their crash worthiness rating. Very impressive |

IIHS now makes headlights part of its testing and I believe at some point a car can not get Top Safety + ranking unless headlights pass. We can all complain about the regulations and stuff, but IIHS and US Gov have really made these cars super safe today compared to years ago. I am amazed at how safe cars have gotten. Which is very good considering how bad drivers have gotten ;-)

Has Acura released the output (lumens) of the headlights? I don't remember seeing any information regarding this...
