Blind Spot Monitor Size

Can anyone tell me what the blind spot monitor looks like? I have a 2022 RDX on order but I have a feeling it won’t be as visible as what is on the Audi that I will be trading in. It’s a solid bright area, almost a rectangle that lights up. It’s about 2” by 1” - almost impossible to miss! Along with the Audi Infotainment system, this may be something else I will have to adapt to.

Not sure what you mean by "blind spot monitor". The RDX has amber indicator lights inside both doors near the side view mirrors that light when there's a vehicle in either blind spot. Accompanied by an audible alarm, which can be adjusted or turned off.

Also, if you signal while a vehicle is in the blind spot, a warning appears on the MID with an alarm.

Hope that answers your question.

Thank you NooYawkub. That is exactly what I meant and good to hear. My Audi also operates like you describe. The only difference is the amber indicator lights are outside on the mirrors. And like I said, that indicator is very large.

The amber light on the RDX is relatively small, though should be visible to the driver.

Something to add too, but a little off topic. The 2022 has a longer range detection over the 2019-2021 models for blind spot monitoring.

2021 - 10 ft or 3 meter from rear bumper

2022 - 10 ft or 3 meter from rear bumper (zone 1) but overtime as you drive on straight roads without traffic/road side objects, the range will eventually increase to 10 - 82 ft or 3-25 meters (zone 2).

Something to keep note of if you are used to seeing the alert with the vehicle really close in the lane next to you (zone 1) versus when the sensors adapt and the alert zone will expand (zone 2). The faster the car is approaching, the further away it will be detected.

It’s located here (similar on passenger side)

Like other said, it’s a bit on the smaller size, especially compared to Audi’s. But it still does grab your attention by the beeping and flashing.

Thanks Jfkmk. I had a feeling it would be a lot smaller than what I currently have.

That is quite a change. I have been upset that the BSM's on my 2020 are next to useless. Mine only light up when the other vehicle is just about alongside my rear bumper. If I were to signal when he was one foot behind my bumper, I would not receive any warnings. You can see from the owners manual that zone A is adjacent to my front fender. If I haven't been drinking I can already see a car located in that position. There is also no mention of the system adapting over time.

In the 2020, I guess that they are truly "Blind Spot Monitors", as that is the only area they protect from. There is no option to use these as an alternative to mirrors, as some drives seem to do.

With regards to the OP's original question about the size of the BSM indicator, this is really case where size doesn't matter. If you always use your signals before changing lanes, the audible alert will let you know if the BSM is illuminated, even if someone has covered it up with black electrical tape.

Can someone explain why blind spot monitor doesn’t work below 20mph?

I believe my previous Lexus let me know at all times regardless of speed and at stop lights.

I almost wish it was only zone A. Living in NJ and the norm here is switching lanes into an opening that is only a single car length, my sensor is beeping giving me a false sense of danger. Oh well, I've always advocated not being lazy and actually turning your head to make sure you are clear.
