Apple Carplay USB slot
Hi! I just purchased my RDX less than a month ago and the Carplay USB slot is kind of jiggly. Not sure if that's normal or not, but it completely stopped working this morning. Does anyone else have/had this issue? and what should I do to get it fixed?

We had a good run of several months without any issues after having some issues initially. Now it's back to disconnecting and reconnecting constantly and it's driving me mad. I have the latest Acura infotainment software as well as iOS on my iphone 11 pro. I have used several different cables (all MFI certified) and the issue happens with all of them. Someone posted a video of the USB port jiggling a bit if you move the cable, mine does that too. Is it supposed to? Could that be the issue here?

I’ve had this happen a couple times on a different car. Drove me mad, but had nothing to do with the car. Both times it was because there was a tiny piece of sand or lint in the iPhone lightning port preventing the cable from fully connecting into my iPhone. Hopefully your issue is as simple!

My CarPlay has been working just fine since the last update, but on a recent roadtrip, it blew out. I was listening to a podcast, got a phone call that I tried to dismiss, and the system visibly glitched. My CarPlay hasn't worked since. The USB port still works to charge, just no CarPlay. I'm going to try a 3-finger salute today to see if that fixes it.

I bought this, in order to reduce problems with plugging in.
IIRC, Acura recommends something like this. Makes everything easier to plug. |

Update: reboot did nothing. To the dealer!

Why not have a short lightening cable permanently connected to the port? Extension cables just add another potential connection failure.

This is what I do, But for Android Auto. After buying a quality short cable, I just leave it in the USB port, and connect it to my Android Phone.

My wife and I had the same issue and we tried several cables. However, we purchased an Anker USB Type - C charging cable from Amazon (around $14.00) and that did the trick.
Solid connection, no issues and there's 3 feet of double-braided nylon so there's plenty of room for both of us to use. We purchased two to use in all of the USB ports. |

Regardless, with the infotainment issues Acura has, can you imagine what would happen if two phones got plugged into two data ports at the same time? You'd probably enter a new dimension. |
Conflicts?
First I would like to see two phones simultaneously connect, so that if either rings, that one could be used in the system. |

Isn't it pretty common for cars to only have 1 CarPlay port?

The RDX infotainment USB port is USB type A though and not USB-C. How do you use it with the car?

First I would like to see two phones simultaneously connect, so that if either rings, that one could be used in the system. My 17.5 Murano had 3 USB Data Ports( one in front and 2 in back and I hated it. Every time someone in the back would plug in their device that one would take over. Tried every setting on the phone and car to resolve it and buried deep in the settings was a option to change the ones in the back to charge only. It only worked some of the time. I finally just gave up and banned anything from being plugged in the rear USB’s bought another device that plugged into the 12 volt plug that would allow a standard plug and USB to be used. Still use it today when I need a regular outlet in the car. |

So, I hope we can all get that via an over the air update.
Nah. Acura is not Tesla when it comes to stuff like that. |

I think there is only one ''car play'' slot. The others are power ports, charging ports, not data. They do not have the ability to receive and transmit data as the ''car play'' slot does. I recommend trying to find a known working phone/cable combination from a friend and see if you get the same result.

Had the exact same experience (except with my wife, not yours). Even talked to the good and competent folks at Anker. FYI, the plot REALLY thickens when it comes to usb C cables and different charging schemes. It is really a mess. Even Anker has different USB C cables for different chargers.

Fix?
Like many others, I had a problem with CarPlay cutting out. Bought an Apple certified cable and it didn’t change anything. Took it to my dealer, were they disconnected and reconnected the cables to no avail.
In the meantime, I drove a rental Mitsubishi Outback sport with CarPlay. It worked flawlessly for six hours of driving ! Finally, I tried a full system reboot and it seemed to fix the problem - so far. |
