AcuraLink App Problem

AcuraLink app was working great until the update a few days ago and now I cant add my RDX to AcuraLink. It keeps saying to contact the registered owner. Anyone know what’s going on? I have an iPhone 8.

Try pairing the phone to the RDX with bluetooth. That seems to make AcuraLink happy. Sometimes.

My bad. I should have written the problem is with the app on my phone that is not letting me add my RDX VIN. I tried scanning the barcode too but still get, “Acess to this vehicle is restricted to specific users.”, and “If you don’t have access, contact the primary driver to request access.” I can log in just fine and it will show my profile. It was working fine before the app was updated letting me lock/unlock, start/stop etc., etc., etc.

Did you try deleting the app and reinstalling it? As much as I hate when someone tells me to “restart” something many times it works.

I had a similar issue. First off, the dealer has to input your info into the Acura system before you can do your part. Maybe he didn't.

My issue was that it stopped after it asked me to enter a PIN. Long story short, I had to log into 'My Acura', delete my old Acura, then input the VIN of the new RDX into the website showing the car was mine. Once I did that, I went back to the app on the phone and it all worked fine.

I just wonder how secure this whole system is? I mean, if I can unlock and start my car with my phone, then someone can probably do the same with the right equipment, no?

Hhhmmmm, I’ll go grab a VIN from the lot and let you know shortly. 🤣

If you really want to make your head spin, try dealing with AcuraLink. Oh wait, we are dealing with AcuraLink! I went many rounds of this with our 2014 MDX.

AFAIK there are different levels of "handshake" between the vehicle and AcuraLink's servers, and your phone running the app, to try to ensure you should really have access.

VIN and PIN through the app is one level. Logging in to the server through the web interface is another level. Bluetooth connection between the phone and vehicle is a third.

Darned if I have figured out how it all works, but these seem to be the moving parts.

Pushing the AcuraLink button in the car gets you to a live human being with power to make things happen. This seems to work better than calling the AcuraLink "customer service" phone number, because pushing the console button means you have physical access to the car. And the telematics unit in the car feeds the AcuraLink representative car ID information, which seems to be more reliable than putting humans in the pathway.

Problem solved! I called Acura this morning. Stupid me was using the wrong log in username/password for AcuraLink. I forgot I changed my email, etc. for my sign in credentials and was trying to use the ones from my ‘16 MDX. Oh well, all is working fine now.

Anyone have two people in their household signed up for acuralink on the same car with different emails? My wife signed up first and it worked perfectly. I tried signing up and when i entered the vin I got the same contact the owner you all are getting. It would be kind of shitty you can't have two different emails registered to the same vin....
