Acura standard warranty

Hey All,

Today out of no where my rear windshield just exploded out of no where while driving inside a parking lot. Any chance the defroster lines could've shorted?

It has been cold here in NJ and today is warmed up. Just trying to figure out how the rear windshield exploded. I dropped my car off to the local dealer and am waiting for a call back.

Trying to figure out if the warranty will cover the damage.

update: spoke with safelite and they said with the weather we have been having here in the NJ area plus in cabin air pressure, that def could've caused the rear windshield to explode.

I opened a case with Acura, just waiting for a call back from them.

I call BS on the Safelite explanation. It only went up to the 40s, maybe low 50s. That is just not that hot.

Safelite are idiots. I hope you get OEM glass either covered through dealer or your insurance, do not get after market. Also, do not have safelite install it.

You should check for scratches on your tailgate and interior plastic trim. I wonder if Acura will warranty this and pay for any extra damages.

I ended up paying to get the back window replaced. It cost me $600 through the dealership. I am still waiting for a call back from the case manager from Acura. I have read other manufacturer warranties, and for example Tesla and Nissan their bumper to bumper warranty will cover the cost of replacing the back window. Hopefully the case manager will agree and reimburse me the money it cost me.

You have to understand dealership position too. How can they distinguish between someone having road hazard or act of vandalism vs someone like you that had a window breaking out of nowhere. They cant just start honoring all broken windows under warranty.

Did you check independent glass dealers? Probably could have had a OEM rear windshield for half the cost......Most ALL dealers sub glass replacements to outside vendors and do not do the work themselves.

Honestly, i did not. I just wanted to get my car fied and didn't want to wait any longer. My luck if i went that route and Acura did decide to reimburse me, they wouldn't because i went to a 3rd party instead of having the dealer do it.

How long have you had your RDX? Did you drive over any speed bumps when this happened?
