2022 RDX is a MAJOR Disappointment
#41
Thanks for your review. I have a deposit on a 2022 RDX Advance. Can anyone comment on the folding mirrors and how they work. For instance, when you turn off the car, do the mirrors automatically fold in? Can you press a button so both mirrors fold in while still driving? I ask as it would be easier to fold in the mirrors for pulling into my garage. I was disappointed to learn that when putting the car in reverse, both mirrors don’t automatically tilt. You can manually tilt one mirror at a time. I had the opportunity to drive a Lexus rx350 and the mirrors were great. Thanks

Factory Matt: I sat in a RDX Advance yesterday and had to manually tilt one side mirror at a time when in reverse. Are you saying both mirrors tilt when the car is in reverse? Is it a setting the dealership didn’t know about? When I drove a Lexus 350 last week, as soon as I put the car in reverse both side mirrors tilted down. Thanks.

If activated, either side door mirror
automatically tilts downward when you put
the transmission into (R; this improves close-
in visibility on the selected side of the vehicle
when backing up. The mirror automatically
returns to its original position when you take
the transmission out of (R.
To activate this feature, set the power mode
to ON and slide the selector switch to the left
or right side.

Yes. Its a setting. Im pretty sure both of mine tilt. At any rate the manual below:

This is what I did yesterday...there is a switch on the driver's side door panel. you move it to the left to tilt the driver's side mirror and you move the switch to the right to tilt the passenger side mirror. Unless I am missing something, both mirrors don't tilt at the same time which to me is a negative when you are backing out or backing up. I found the Lexus Rx350 mirror function to be great. Oh well. Thanks

Anoop - yes, the Lexus I drove for a few days had tilting mirrors when you put the car in reverse. It was automatic and i didn't have to change anything manually....as soon as the car was in reverse, both mirrors tilted down. My experience in sitting in the RDX yesterday was that I had to move the switch left or right if i wanted one mirror to tilt...as noted, if the switch is in the middle, neither mirror tilts.
Thanks
Thanks

New Owner 2022 RDX A-Spec Advance
I respectfully disagree. I was one of the 1st people to take delivery of my 2022 RDX A-Spec ADV. in mid November and absolutely love this automobile!

What did you have before? I think OP was comparing it to the 2021. It's a matter of expectations.

Just picked up our 2022 RDX tech package in Liquid Carbon Metallic and Espresso interior last Sunday night. Awesome ride. Lots of power. Mainly gonna be my wife's car during the week as I drive a 2015 TLX base, which has been very reliable at over 135,000 miles so far. Not much wiggle room on pricing here in So Cal. Got it for MSRP. Everyone else wanted over sticker and would not budge. Not a great time to have to buy a car, but our old 2006 Sienna was starting to have several issues that weren't worth the repair costs. Tax deduction through our business made it an easier pill to swallow too. Looked at the new MDX and RX 350 too. The MDX is very nice but a little larger than what we really needed at this point in our lives. Plus MDX pricing is pretty ridiculous currently. Looking forward to driving it on the weekends!

I live on a one-way street and often park in front of my house. The mirror tilt combined with the 360 cam really help with curb rash. Besides, using it is optional - you can always leave the switch in the middle and the mirrors will just stay where they are configured.

Only had our 2022 RDX Advanced for a few weeks now. Mostly learning all the new bells & whistles but like the quiet ride. I can't compare it to a 2021 as I only drove one for a test drive.
Mirror tilt is a very personal / situational thing. I had it on a previous Pilot and used it some of the time but usually had it off / set in the middle.
one new feature I think we are going to appreciate is the wiper deiceing. We are in the NE and have plenty of winter Wx ( although in 60s today). I never understood why Honda put that on Canadian models but not USA.

Here are some photos of our new ride. We purchased from Autonation South Bay in Torrance, CA. Olajuwon Lawson was our sales rep. He also used to work in the finance department there and did our paperwork as well. Sped up the process. He was very helpful. The Espresso interior looks better in person. It came out lighter in this photo.

I purchased a 2019 a few years ago and Autonation Torrance felt like a slimy bait and switch type of dealership (email/phone communications) so I never bothered to visit them. Interested in the 2022 RDX now, and wondering if I should give them another shot..

Vehicle price was $43,495 (MSRP for 2WD Tech Package) plus taxes at 7.75 % (Orange County is where I live) and registration/fees totaled $47,567.20 OTD. The vehicle had just arrived at the dealership so no dealer add ons. A lot of dealers are adding on stuff like paint and leather protection or alarms and adding that into the price of the cars. Torrance dealership was very straightforward. No hidden costs or fees. They matched our trade offer from Carmax too. Salesperson followed up today with me to make sure ask him if I had any questions regarding the RDX.

Yeah I sometimes service my TLX there. They are a good dealership, but they didn't have any RDX tech packages with the color combination we wanted. Inventory is obviously the biggest issue right now. We did some test drives at Tustin; the internet manager there said they are doing market adjustements on the MDX and RDX currently, especially the MDX. There were only a few dealerships in So Cal that had the vehicle we wanted. Hoehn Acura in Carlsbad wanted $1500 over sticker and would not budge. I see that one is still on their lot last I checked. Sherman Oaks Acura had one in transit, but it sold. Ball Acura was too far south to go in National City. Seems like most dealers have a good inventory on Aspecs, so you may be able to get a good deal on thosel if you're interested.

Yeah Cerritos Acura had the same car in white, but the salesperson told me over the phone that it alraedy had $3000-4000 worth of dealer add ons. I said "no thanks." She said it was their way of making up for loss of revenue due to the low inventory situation. You just have to call around to different dealers once you've narrowed it down to what you want to buy. In my experience, I can usually find a dealer or 2 willing to give a fair deal. Autonation said they're usually tacking on a $1995 market adjustment fee these days, but the manager waived it last weekend to get some cars moving off the lot. Good luck to anyone buying in these crazy times!

And yet the industry is seeing record profits. Gotta love these tactics ha ha

There's probably a lot more to it. They may be selling fewer units with fewer salespeople but with higher selling prices and profit margins leading to overall higher profits. And this is true for most products. The consumer and those on a salary get screwed. With inflation running hot, if profits don't keep up with inflation, the business will go belly up.

Now, you all know that dealers are always singing the blues about how they have to make more on a car as they are "losing money". Yet, with all their "losses" they seem to have such fine expensive buildings and are making big profits. Sure, times are hard........
An article from Kelly Blue Book site from a few weeks back:
"According to a report from the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), net profit before tax at the average new car dealership through the first nine months of 2021 was up an astonishing 128.2% over the same period in 2020. Net profit includes both operating profit and the incentives some automakers pay to dealers who exceed sales targets.Dealerships selling domestic cars saw their pre-tax net profit rise 112.6%, NADA says. Those selling imported cars saw an even greater increase, 140.6%."
How sorry do you feel for these "poor dealerships who are hurting so much"??

Customer places order and arranges financing on line from manufacturer/distributor. So Acura US or Acura Canada.
Closest Dealer receives vehicle and performs pre deliver inspection.
Customer picks up vehicle.
All service done by dealer
So dealer only performs delivery and service for new cars. He can still sell used and pre owned. Also arrange test drives. Sell parts and accessories.
Customer benefits from direct sales, quick custom ordering, lower pricing and easier access to a huge inventory. No gouging and other games.
Just my opinion.
