Acura ain't placing an NA V6 and 2.0T into the same car. It's contradictory on many levels. Let's place a small bet on it- $20. We're in the same city, so we can easily pay up.

They aren't dumping the NA V6 because they want to. They're probably getting pushed by CAFE requirements, and a 2.0T does marginally better when it comes to fuel economy... until you start romping on the go pedal. Honda has never been a company of many engines. They've invested a ton into turbo technology- they likely aren't going back, now. 1.5T, 2.0T, 3.0T (NOT a TT, as far as the patent docs showed) is all we will see, in North America.

And with more and more of the competition going turbo, people will have no choice but to buy one... or drive something old. Tiguan, Q5, NX, X3, GLC, GLA, Escape, etc. all have 2.0Ts. NA V6s are dying. Once again Acura would be behind the gun, offering an NA V6 in a world where everyone now offers 2.0Ts, including themselves.

You don't have to agree with me... but there are more signs pointing to a V6T in the RDX eventually, then there are not. I'll just sit back and wait to collect me $20, when you're ready

Also, the 1G RDX didn't sell poorly in comparison to the 2G RDX because it had a turbo engine, vs a V6. It sold poorly because it was a terrible implementation of a turbo into that car. It guzzled fuel and provided average power. And people didn't want that. It also had a "harsh" suspension for many, etc. Acura's heart was in the right place... but their implementation was anything but perfect.

Yes, people on here talk about the smoothness of the V6 and the sound and whatever else. I'm not discounting those traits. But we now have a purpose built 2.0T, mated to a chassis that is supposed to be better then ever, on suspension that will likely appeal more to the masses, like the 2G RDX. There is absolutely no reason for the 3G RDX to sell poorly... unless it is priced out to lunch. Otherwise, it is the best iteration of the RDX ever made. If that doesn't sell... well...

Also, no one ever said the 2.0T will be better than the outgoing V6, in every single category. But it is the new direction in which Honda/Acura is heading in. If consumers don't like the 2.0T, well, they can buy a Tiguan, Q5, NX, X3, X1, GLC, GLA, Escape.. uh... I don't even know. Seriously, how many other options are in that category?

Anyone watch the NY Auto Show live reveal? Only real take away was the engine specs I think.

Peak output is 272 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque.

Was hoping for an on-sale date...oh well.

wow, is it just me or does the 2019 RDX look a lot like a Toyota Highlander? Seems like it has a lot of great features wrapped in a ho-hum exterior design... sort of disappointed.

really? I don't see this at all. I think it is absolutely gorgeous. With that said, there isn't a car in the world that everyone would agree looks good.

Very true! I guess for me, aesthetically the 2018 > 2019. Obviously the 2019 dwarfs the 2018 in amazing features, but from the outside it just comes across as sorta vanilla.

After all the hoopla over the new motor, less hp than the 3.5l (as I predicted long ago). Of course they will concentrate on the torque in all the advertising. I do like the white over red/black A-Spec scheme. Not a big fan of the raised center console design. Hate the push button shifter as well...

The new motor is much lighter in weight, paired with 10sp transmission it will outperform 2nd gen. I am pretty certain 0-60 numbers are better too. HP numbers alone mean nothing.

All I can say that the new RDX rocks.....of course we can sit here and find issues but no car in the market is flawless...I promise you even if we go and pay $500K for a car, we will be able to find flaws. Also we all have different taste, needs and budget. Acura or any brand cannot make a car for each individual. We always hear that the new Lexus design is not good, yet the RX350 is the most sold SUV in North America.
Overall, Acura did what they had to do a decade ago lol!

Once again, thank you team Acura and keep up the great work. I cannot wait to see the next ILX, RLX, TLX and MDX with the same design, A-SPEC and Type S. Also bring CDX

It is also a smaller, FI 4 cylinder. Not a step forward IMO. On top of this they tuned it to put out less hp. They could have easily gotten 280hp out of it so it would be higher than the outgoing motor. I don't really care about the 0-60 numbers myself. The sound of the new motor will not compare to the old 3.5's grunt.

I totally agree!!! :-)
I wonder how much of the sales will come from potential MDX buyers? The only reason, as far as I am concerned, to get an MDX now is for the 3 rows of seats.... but the interior and exterior are both much nicer with the new RDX, ESPECIALLY THAT INTERIOR!!! WOW! It is exciting to think that the next MDX will have to be nicer than THIS... :-)

I was focusing to get a MDX for my family but I am not lying since Jan, I am in love with RDX. I was worried if the prod version will be very different and won't reflect the "Prototype" but thank god everything is the same
I think I will opt in for the RDX over MDX just for the new tech, infotainment and look

The next MDX will be sick! As I said before by 2020 - Acura lineup will be awesome...next we will see ILX with the new design and features.

good point. It seems that some people like to whine about not having v6 even though it will outperform current v6 in almost all aspects of driving.

however; i'm not purchasing it and will never will. each time, i backspaced and deleted my opinions about it. better to keep my mouth shut than to whine

I am pretty excited about new rdx. I’ve been following acura since 2000, and the last time I was that excited when they introduced type S. Acura has been borning for many years. New rdx is definitely a fresh start.

Loving the red on black theme with the red stitching on the doors and steering wheel/center console. I hope they don’t keep that leather/vinyl trim piece on the dash with black stitching on the A-Spec model like they showed at new york, I think it needs to have red stitching too. Loving the little bit of alcantara and also that the A-Spec is getting unique gauges. Super surprised that they secretly unveiled an MDX A-Spec, I thought they would have held off till the 4G.

Glad they stuck to the concept and not sure if anyone noticed that it comes with 19’s standard! Means the A-Spec has at least 20’s if not 21’s. Oh and the MDX A-Spec comes with 265 wide tires! Bold move for Acura but about time. Love those German SUV’s with steamroller tires though those mostly have 295-305 wide tires!!!

This RDX just makes me more excited to see what they do with the MDX because this RDX is just so good and historically the MDX is at least twice as nice inside. Might finally see an MDX with interior quality comparable to Audi, BMW, and Mercedes! We might be saying Lexus who in a few years if Lexus keeps up with the gaudy design and Acura hits it out if the park with the rest of the lineup.

I was looking through the pics again and noticed a quibble. Does that look like an incandescent light bulb in the brake light housing? If it is, that's disappointing considering the CR-V has full LED lights at the back.

The CR-V has incandescent back-up bulbs. I have a 2017 Touring, they were easily replaced with much brighter LED lamps.

Many people, myself included, don't get hung-up on 0-60 numbers. 30-60 or 40-70 are more representative of daily driving situations as in getting on freeway or passing. I rarely go all out from 0 to 60, rarely any reason to. Does it compute now?

In watching a video review by Redline at the NYC show, it looks like they are continuing incandescent rear turn signal bulbs for the 3rd gen RDX. Mind boggling to me as the CR-V has full LED brake/turns. Why would Acura not follow this on the RDX with all the tech it has? The question I have is they keep talking about a bespoke platform for the RDX. Is it really completely different than the CR-V, or just an extended wheelbase like the 2nd gen? Seems strange if it is still built in the same factory as the CR-V.

When the original 1G RDX debut Acura was saying that it was on an all new platform unique to the RDX and diferent to the CRV. In reality they only really changed a couple things but called it unique and all new.

From what I am gathering, this 3G RDX takes the CRV (essentially the civic) platform and modifies the front portion so that it can hold a V6 engine (someone shared a link on this somewhere on here) and the rear portion so that it can support the SH-AWD hardware. As far as “All-New” and “Bespoke” I call bullshit. Acura is too small of a company to be developing individual platforms for the entire Acura lineup and also they just aren’t global either. I mean hell Toyota is MASSIVE and look what they do with their platforms.

The 1G RDX drove phenomenally well for a crossover based on the CRV platform so I don’t really care if this new RDX also shares the same platform, personally.

Agreed, I don't care either, the spokespeople keep touting the unique platform and I feel like you do. Likely just a modified CRV as it is now.

I mean I guess they are “technically” not lying since it took the original platform and changed it. So it is “unique” to the RDX but it’s not unique to the brand. A lot of marketing talk is usually worded in funny ways like how they said the new RDX will have “40% more low end torque” which is true but implies it is making a significant amount more torque in total. Or when companies say a FWD-based AWD system can send 100% of available torque to the rear on slippery surfaces (they literally mean because the front wheels are on ice and slipping and hence all power is going to the rear)....etc

"A Spec" is purely cosmetic, inside and out and nothing different under the hood. "Type S" is a bump in power and sportier ride.
