I do all maintenance when the onboard system tells me to. I bought my '14 MDX Advance 2 days before release day and now have 6K+ miles. My oil 'life' is at 40%.

Thanks, so I guess the first oil change is 1K miles!

Follow the onboard maintenance reminder as it appears in the MID.

When new vehicles come out of the factory, they are filled with special oil which helps the internal engine moving parts to mate and grind in properly, in order to prevent future oil burning problems.

So don't replace the factory oil too soon. But once the 1st oil change is done, the regular engine oil can be replaced at any interval as one sees fit.

Did you mean 10K instead of 1K?

10,000 miles between oil changes seems a bit much. It is probably best to follow the manufacturer suggested interval. Oil change Time and mileage interval does depend upon several factors like long trips, lots of short trips, lots of stop and go traffic, towing a trailer, hot or cold climate, dusty or humid atmosphere, etc. I think 5000-6000 miles between oil changes for mixed use is a good round number.

This is my 3rd Acura and my dealer insists that the car will notify you exactly when you need to perform the service (with my TL I tried to have them service it earlier) but the car reported my oil life was still 30%. They told me to bring it back when the car notified me. It has varied anywhere between 8500-10K miles. Acura/Honda has a number of advanced sensors that monitor multiple systems that all go into the calculation of when service is due. Also keep in mind that Acura (at least my dealer) utilizes a special synthentic oil designed to last much longer and extend the life of the engine. Just my experience.
