Say I buy a car with an MSRP's of $50,000 and invoice is $45,000. I work out a sale price of $40,000 thinking I got an amazing deal. But really, they only gave me $10,000 for my trade in that was worth $15,000, they gave me a finance rate of 2.99% when really the bank gave them a rate of 1.99%, and they tacked on some fees like an advertising fee, preparation fee, and a really high doc fee.

So instead of getting the car for $5,000 below invoice and sticking it to the dealer, they made $5,000 on my trade in, $500-$1000 from the bank on the finance deal, and a couple hundred bucks in meaningless fees that people are too uncomfortable arguing over. And that's not even including the various things the finance manager tries to sell you like upholstery/paint protections and extended warranties that are all have mark up where they make money on too.

So again, unless someone pays cash (or uses their own financing) with no trade-in involved and doesn't pay for any accessories or protection packages, then what they paid for a car is completely meaningless.
Best not to deal in hypotheticals. Everybody's situation is different. Some may have what you have outlined and a whole lot of others are completely different. Not everyone would have a trade in for the dealer to stick it to them. My dealer for instance had a better interest rate than anything I could get from the bank. For people shopping around it is quite helpful to have these information as they would know how to strike a good bargain.

Congrats! Don't be surprised if your dealer contacts you to advise Acura has pushed out the "build date" and delivery will be delayed. Has happened to LOTS of people. Just because they "order" it doesn't mean they will get it. Especially rare color combos such as Blue w/ Gray. Good luck and congrats again.

For what it is worth, just signed a P&S on a new '14 AWD w/Tech, including delivery, for $46,500. I had no trade-in and am expecting no free accessories other than 2 coffee mugs and 2 key rings. Will pick up car early next week once I get the bank check, and I guess they can always try to stick me with some other BS charge....

Have them check with their banks to match or beat any rate you are getting elsewhere. It almost never makes sense to do outside financing, unless the 1 out of 10 case their lending tree of banks can't match or beat the rate and do it all in one step.

Great choice with the AWD Tech.

Actually, my experience was just the opposite. Pre-approval with credit union at 1.75% and told dealer I would use theirs if they could beat it. They tried pushing the 1.9% they found so I could "drive the car off the lot today". I will wait two days. Looking forward to it. Thanks.

Also forgot to mention that I agreed to pay $399 fee and $27 for temp tags. $46,926 off the lot.

MSRP
I waited almost 2 mths for delivery. Even after 2 mths and with a lot full of MDX's, mine was the only Forrest mist on the lot and the only one with eucalyptus interior, in addition, there were only 2 advanced models on the lot including mine. I think Honda misjudged the demand for the advanced model and the new colors, which a good thing for their bottom line. I take delivery on Thursday though I got to see our car already, it was fresh off the truck, still wrapped, and awaiting all the accessories. The color is indeed very elegant. The eucalyptus is a shade of dark gray with a very small hint of green. Think of it as lighter than black but significantly darker than the other gray. IMO very nice indeed. 4 more days and counting.

2014 AWD Advance in CT

I have the Advance package with a grey exterior/grey interior on order for mid November delivery.

I effectively paid about 55,600 all in, with free oil changes for life. I intend to keep the car for a while, and maintain the car with the dealer, so its worthwhile for me.

I guess I got lucky, my beautiful blue / grey combo Adv Ent got delivered 9 days early (i.e. yesterday). Got 2.24% for 75 months + good value on my trade. Had a 2 hour drive home and must admit, the car is absolutely incredible. So happy with the purchase.

The LKAS works so well, it's almost like witchcraft.

^^^ That's awesome. Is your Advance FWD or SH-AWD? It may be that if it is a SH-AWD Advance, Acura FINALLY got it's act together on the launch. If it is a FWD Advance, it's not too surprising it arrived on time - but early is rare. So you might just be one of the lucky ones. Let's hope you are one of the lucky ones with no problems also! Congrats and enjoy!

It's the SH-AWD one, hoping I don't have too many problems either. So far loving every minute in the car, feel like leaving work early and going for a long drive.

Cheers, although having read your post, I took the time to check out mis-matched body panels and have noticed my driver-side has a section of the door popping out a lot more around the bend of the door (where the door guard gets installed) as compared to the rest of the door. I just stopped my investigation right there, not wanting to be a killjoy to myself (especially since I plan to keep her for a very long time). But you're right, it IS annoying that you pay so much for a car and have such quality issues. My 04 TL didn't have that and neither did my 97 TL. Go figure.

^^^ YES! Do NOT go over the whole car as you're more than likely going to find more disappointment with panel fitments, interior and exterior. Just keep enjoying it thanks!

Is Invoice price a good price for 14 MDX now or you think there is more room to negotiate. Dealer here charges $500-700 as dealer fees so I guess that should be total profit for them.

If by "invoice", you mean MSRP, you can probably do better. Read earlier posts and you will see people generally paying below MSRP, but location, options, etc all contribute to your final price. Look thru the previous 5 pages of valuable user input to get a comfort level of what people are paying. Good luck.

By invoice, I mean the actual invoice price not the MSRP. Like the car I am looking for is 47400 MSRP and 44300 Invoice. I am getting offer for invoice price plus around $500 dealer/processing fees.

Just sold the wifey's 08 Tech and am in the market.

Got an internet quote for an MDX SH-AWD TECH ENT for 48~ish. Seriously tempted to pull the trigger even though I typically don't purchase first year model runs.

Going to take a fresh look at the new X5 and GL450, but reason typically trumps emotion when it comes to writing a check.

Paid 44,100 for FWD + TECH. This is around $200 below invoice but in Florida there is 699 dealer/doc fees that kills the deal.

I did a pretty good deal on the actual vehicle, but new Georgia TAVT (upfront Ad Valorem a.k.a. "rich tax") screwed me.

Lease for $603/mo Tech/Entertainment with zero out of pocket. 12k/year.

I am in NOVA and in the market for a 2014 MDX with Advance/Entertainment. Your price for the model you indicated seems very low which is good. Where did you get that price? I will be picking one up hopefully in the next week and need to start talking to more dealerships.

2014 MDX FWD Technology & Ent. Pkg.

Base MSRP $48,565 + $895 Destination Fee
Total MSRP $49,460
Estimated Dealer Price (via Consumer Reports) $47,574
Fine Print: Excludes doc dee, tax, title and license and other fees where allowed by law, and any options installed by the dealer (Winston-Salem, NC)
So...at this point (without any dialog with the dealer) I will save at least $1,886.
Since I'm in no hurry to buy, I'll try and negotiate another $1,200 (or so) in the next couple of months.
I may pull the trigger if I can get the savings to $3,000.
Perhaps the by end of January or February they may want to move @ $3,000 off. We'll see.

Hi there,

What are the best lease rates folks out there are getting? I've been offered 0.0017 with a 62% residual.
$529 per month with $4,100 down, 36 months, 12k per yr on a 2014 SH-AWD (base) with roof rails and tow-hitch.

Also, given I actually don't need to get MDX until May (that's when baby #3 arrives!) what's the consensus on the amount of negotiation leverage I have today (last day of the year) versus at the end of April?

Cheers,
Andrew

I am in current negotiations in the NOVA area also for an Advanced.

So far I have 53990 + 895 freight.

What do you think?
