the owners manual calls for 0w-20 which is a synthetic...
in today's advanced world, most oils are a blend of synthetic and conventional oil.

Either buy fossil oil or splurge on full synthetic.

Any modern, good-quality regular fossil oil will do the job well, if changed at proper intervals.

Synthetic blends are mainly regular fossil oil with just barely enough synthetic mixed-in to allow them to be boldly labeled as "Synthetic Blend" -- at a higher price.

For only a little more money, you can get a true full synthetic oil with all of its benefits unadulterated -- lower friction, better viscosity index over wider temperature range, fuel-savings, decreased engine wear, and sludge-free longer oil life.

I use Mobil 1 0W-20 full synthetic and change it along with a new Honda filter at 50%,which is about every 7,000 miles. For those that run non-synthetic I'd recommend change at 3,500-4,000 miles.

I have always used full synthetic in every vehicle I have owned over the last 20 years. I use Mobil 1 when I change it myself. On the few occasions I have gotten it changed professionally I go with whatever brand they have, but always full synthetic.

I have heard that you can go longer between changes when you use full synthetic (as harrymac suggests above), but I have never done that. I have always kept to the recommended interval, even with the full synthetic.

I was using Royal Purple and they are $10 per quart at some stores. I recently switched to Castrol GTX, same quality but way cheaper.

"Which oil is best" threads are notorious for being full of strong opinions based on very small evidence pools. 93% (made up 'fact') of people simply follow the maintenance minder and pour in/have poured in whatever is available that meets the 0w-20 spec and the engine lasts 332,913 miles (another made up fact) without issue. Other than changing the oil at around 500 miles on every new car I get I follow the manual or oil life indicator and use whatever oil I've convinced myself is the best option. In my statistical pool of 27 new cars it's never let me down (I have 175,000 miles on my crown vic and UOA shows its flawless internally following the manual and using Motorcraft brand oil and filters).

I've use Mobil 1 for my TSX, RDX, and MDX with +350,000 between all three. I find it easier to purchase the oil from Walmart and take to the dealership for service. I can get an A1 and B1 service done for $27+car wash (dealership provides oil filter and crush washer). I could change at home; but, $27 is a fair trade compared to time/cleanup/discarding of the old oil would cause.
