What are issues with buying 2014 MDX with 90K miles?
Hi all,
I'm new to the club, and looking to purchase a MDX for a growing family. My perception of Acura is Honda and the engines are built to last. Thus, I saw a 2014 MDX with 96K miles at a reasonable price. Is it worth buying or will I have to deal with too many headaches (repairs) and cost, that it makes sense to get a MDX with lower miles and pay more?
FYI - It is a 2014 MDX with technology and entertainment package for $26K and has 96K miles.

Three Wheelin'
Keep in mind it needs a timing belt and water pump done at 105k miles. Other than that it should be a really good car assuming all the previous maintenance was done. Even if that car was bought in 2013 that's about 32k a year, which means that was mostly highway miles.

26k on a car with 96k miles seems a lot...
Have you checked out the new cx9? For a little more, you get a brand new one.
Btw, are you looking at a white one in acura of thousand oaks?

I would check what items are scheduled maintenance items between 90k-100k and see what has been completed. Then use that as part of your negotiations but if the maintenance records show proper maintenance then you should be okay with the higher mileage.

the other maintenance items are inspections and oil changes...inspect brakes, inspect suspension etc....which wouldnt warrant a price decrease....
Only the 105k mile service would reflect in price

I'm going to go somewhat against the grain and say $26k may be not be bad, but is kinda so-so. I picked up a 2014 Advanced, with entertainment system in Feb 2016 (almost a year ago) with 70K miles on it for $33k. It was a June 2013 purchase day, so just about 2.5 years old (traded in in Nov 2015). I haven't had any major problems with it, but i'm also a car guy, and don't mind doing my own maintenance(brakes, fluid flushes, etc). That said, I probably wouldn't do the timing belt or water pump, just cause i'm a bit lazy too. I was looking at it from the POV that this was a $55k car, and I saved over $20K after only 2.5 years... Now, another thought, is the new 2017 CRV is coming out soon, but of course, it's not 3 row. So, not sure how much the space is at a premium. It has all the safety stuff that the MDX has, but it's standard on EX and above.
I'm at around 84k miles on mine now, and it drives great. gas mileage is kinda... meh, 16-18mpg on average. if i do 100% highway, i can get 25-26mpg, which is great. but mixed city highway, 18, maybe 20 if i'm light on the throttle for that tank.
I guess what i'm saying is, I enjoy the luxury features in the Mdx, and getting them at $26k is a nice price, despite the higher mileage. I have rarely seen the 2014 dip that low into the 20's (i get weekly emails from auto-trader for 14 tech MDX's, never unsubscribed from my search a year ago). I expect to keep this car until 200k, so for me, I knew that going in, and I'm find with it. I hope the car doesn't disappoint me.
I've got a 2001 Honda civic that has a blown head gasket, low compression on 2 cylinders, and it still starts right up, and feels "normal". if i hadn't done the compression test myself, i wouldn't have believed it. and it's been that way for 2 years, and still gets driven 2-3 times a week.
I trust the Honda reliability, so I think/Hope this Acura will do the same. (electronics not withstanding, lol)
