Tire pressure from dealer

I recently had a loaner and noticed a much softer ride around the bumps. When I got my advance back I again noticed a much harsher ride. I then looked at the tire pressure. Avg 43 psi in all tires. Wow not sure why I just noticed that. 44 is the max 35 is the recommend. Not sure why the dealer set them that high? Going to call them today but wanted to see what other have theirs set at.

Thanks.

You should set them at the factory recommended pressure that's listed on the driver side. I have mine on 35 all around.

Keep in mind that you have to do this while the tires are cold. The pressure will go up by 2-3 psi as you drive

Most cars are shipped with the tires at MAX pressure to make sure they don't flat-spot while sitting during transport. Dealers are supposed to check the tire pressure before they let the car leave either from service or before delivery.

I recommend around 34-35PSI Cold if you live in climates where the temperatures shift a bit around a bit more.

i'm glad i read this thread. i just checked my tire pressure and they are all at 42psi.(cold) sooo i've been driving around with over inflated tires for the first 200 miles of ownership.. awesome...

my annoyed sarcasm aside, thank you for mentioning that. I usually check my tire pressure somewhat regularly but have been ridiculously busy since i took delivery.
you would think the dealer would check the pressure before they release the vehicles.

and what really kills me is i just picked the car up today after leaving it at the dealer for 3 days to install accessories.
and in the paperwork they gave me it says as part of the service they performed a "world class inspection"
what a joke...
they also scratched up my quarter panel in the cargo area installing the rear sensors.. smh

Same here, but drove to our beach vacation for over 1700 miles (that's total since we took delivery). So our dealer did not catch it at delivery nor after installing accessories. More importantly I did not catch it even after reading them from the tire pressure monitoring, I am an idiot.

I called the service dept and ask if they are suppose to set at 42 and they said no! Then he tried to say maybe they were set that high for colder climate, I then advised him that the car was built in May and we all know it's not cold in Alabama May.

Oh we'll the car rides much better now.

is the TPS readings on the dash display accurate?
I wonder if a reading from the tire itself and from the dash differ too much of a degree...

I have digital gauge which is supposed to be within .5 lbs and based on that TPMS is pretty accurate on my MDX.

when i called to ask about this, they said that all there cars are set at 43psi and that this is normal. if i would like to set it at 35psi i could bring it in and they would do it or me... facepalm!
i told them to have the service mananger call me...

I find that most places don't use digital tire gauges so it's never accurate. To them it may have been the right pressure. It's happened to me many times during tire changes.

I second that. The MDX TPMS readouts are all within a 1/2 lb difference, than those measured by my digital gauge.

Well they scratched my quarter panel during the sensor install, and I was not happy about it. So I'm sure someone will call. If not about the tires then at least to tell me the new part Is in.

I'm about a mile high in altitude in NM and the hand gauge and TPMS reading is about 2-3 PSI off . The PSI difference is higher as the altitude goes up when I visit my Bro in Colorado. The ride feels a little better in all three vehicles with an extra 2-3 PSI all around. I also set my tire pressure 3-4 PSI higher during the winter months or I will get warning when the temps are at or below freezing in the mornings.

Yea new cars are set high, and some leave it at high psi cause sometimes a car sits for a long time without it being sold.

During delivery of car there supposed to lower the psi but they always forget.

I personally would keep them at 34-36psi hot pressures.

^^^^^

Agree. The tires are inflated to max pressure for storage, so that they won't "flat-spot" afterwards.

Does anyone know if the system compensates for temp ?
Does the display the pressure based on cold temp settings or does it show actual pressure regardless of tire temp ?

My motorcycle has smartyre and it tells you actual temp and pressure and the tire pressure error for the current temp.
ex. If the pressure is set to 41 at 67% air/tire temp and the pressure goes to 45 at 115% and that is normal for that temp I get and error of 0. But if it is 49 at 115 and it should be 45 then I get an error of +4 . This tells me either my normal pressure is to high or there is a problem with that wheel.

I believe the system displays actual air pressure based on current ambient conditions.

The Honda/Acura system displays the exact tire pressure measured inside the tires, just like an ordinary analog/digital tire pressure gauge.

That's why as you drive the vehicle, the tire temperature gets hotter, and the displayed tire pressure readings will also gradually go up correspondingly.

Thanks . Ran a test last night and yes it just displays the actual tire pressure of the tire regardless of its temp. O well still better than the system that was on my civic.
