Sup guys, I've been asking around for the fender flares for our 3G MDX, I couldn't find one and have asked around in our forum. This is pretty set but can always be improve if I can find better flexible materials but also look good. Tell me what yall think. YAY or NAY? Thanks.
Personally, nay. Looks out of place, and not clean. Maybe if they weren't 3" and plastic, like say a 1" flare instead of moulding and body color instead of plastic.

if you wanted plastic cladding, could have bought any other CUV that comes with it installed from the factory.
plus, it didnt even widen anything...what's that 2mm more? LOL
They might work if the cladding was a little smaller, paint color options, and didn't look so disjointed where it connects to the existing trim? Have it look more like the 2nd Gen MDX trim might work a touch better? May not be a need for the trim other than aesthetics with the 3rd Gen MDX compared to the 2nd Gen. 2nd Gen look more muscular and wider in its stance. The 2nd Gen molding and fender flairs did help with door dings and bumps when the MDX was parked.
The MDX deserves better, what you've done there is an amatuer attempt at turning your Acura into a Pontiac. The giant proportions compete with the body lines vs. complementing them and the fit and finish is a complete fail. Sorry to be so harsh but really don't like it.
A+ for effort but I'm sorry man that looks absolutely terrible. On top of that you are begging for dirt and water and salt (if it snows there) to collect between those flares and the bodywork which is an excellent recipe for rust.
IMHO this gen MDX requires thin (1"-1.5" wide) body color fender flares that attach only at the edge of the wheel well. Like this tiguan but body color for example:
I think what looks best, and others have shared this before, are the small wheel well lips that the higher trimline BMW X5s and Volvo XC90s seem to add very tastefully. I've not been close enough to one to get my hands on it, but it appears to be metal instead of plastic, and they're paint to match.
I was actually thinking about doing this task on my 14 MDX but did not get around with it. But much props for you testing it out on your MDX.
My idea was to make it in real carbon fiber BUT I want to make it something similar to the BMW X M5 fenders show below. I don't want to make it too obvious. Just a small touch. The only concern that I had on the MDX is the rear door edge. For the rear fender flare, you need to make it in 2 pieces. You can see on the BMW the rear is 1 piece design.
Here is another variation for the Porsche Cayenne. If something like this it would look nice
Also if you make flare fender, its good that the wheel also flush against it. Right now, it does look kind of funny the way it is. But if you wheel stick out more then it would look aggressive. Or maybe color match it then it would look nicer. The matte black seem out of place.
+1 for X5 style ones. If there were small like the X5's, I think they can be mounted solely to the inside of the well. These remind me of Subaru or Audi Allroad.
