Is it possible to install parking sensor and costs?

Hi everyone,
We just purchased a 2017 Sh-awd Tech and love it! My wife miss not having the front parking sensors like what we have with our lexus. Have anyone had this installed by the dealer and how much should I expect to pay? I'm a bit worried about having them drill holes in our bumper. My wife would love to have a front camera instead of just sensor when she parks; of course, should have gotten the Advance package, but it was too much above our price range. Has anyone had an aftermarket front camera/sensors installed on their MDX and would you recommend that or just stay with oem parking sensors? Thank you.

According to the *installation instructions*, the 2017 MDX has the front sensor mounting locations preformed. All you need it do is pull the plug and install the sensor. The rear sensors still require you do drill a hole but it is not as hard as it seems. The instructions even reference a 16 mm punch tool (07AAH-TZ5A100) that can be used to make the holes. The backside of the bumper cover has markings indicating where to put the holes.

I would get the OEM unit because it ties into the factory system that is prewired for it. Unlike the 2014-2016 backup sensors that only provide an audible response, the 2017 accessory front/rear parking sensors also provide a visual display in the instrument panel. See page 8 of the *Parking Sensor User's Manual*.

That's great too know. Thank you, Markpaco. I'm not sure I want to do this myself so I will contact our local dealer to do this.

Service department just quoted me $970 plus tax for front sensors only and another $800 plus tax for rear sensors. Wow, that's a lot more than I expected. I was thinking about $1000 for both front and rears.

I'm trying to search the part numbers to see if maybe my buddy who works for a Honda dealer can help me install it ourselves but I'm running into some confusion finding the right part numbers. Would anyone hear have the part numbers handy? It looks like I have to buy the parking sensors(08V67-TZ5-220H) and back up sensors (08V67-TZ5-220G, but also the installation kit only for the parking sensor (08V67-TZ5-220C) but I don't see an installation kit being necessary for the back-up sensors. Does that sound right? Finally which is the front and which is the back? I assume back-up is back and parking is front? Thanks guys.

Purchase the parts and maybe get a body shop to install?

You can look at this Acura eStore link for 2017 MDX accessories and install manuals with part#s. Looks like you can get Front and Rear, or Rear only. Just look at the entire list for other info too.

parking sensors include front and rear. you do have to buy the attachment kit separate. backup sensors are if you only want the rear.

Sorry for the late reply. I was waiting until a parts website published the part numbers.

08V67-TZ5-200C is the F/R attachment kit which includes all of the "unseen" items (harnesses, hardware, control box, etc) required, less 8 sensors. You will definitely need that. The 2017 back-up sensor attachment kit is 08V67-TZ5-220D only includes the "unseen" items associated with the 4 rear sensors.

The parking sensors have a different part number because they are color keyed. According to the Bernardi Acura Parts (http://acura.bernardiparts.com/Acura...TZ5-XXX3.aspx) website, 08V67-TZ5-220H includes both the 4 front AND 4 rear sensors in Crystal Black Pearl. You do not need to purchase the back up sensors (08V67-TZ5-220G) since that is only for the 4 rear sensors.

To clarify, according to Acura, the "Parking Sensors" includes both the 4 front AND 4 rear sensors while the "Back-up Sensors" are just the 4 rear sensors.

IMO/RANT:

Aside from cost concerns, I don't understand why someone would just get rear sensors and not get the front sensors too. The MDX already comes with a reverse camera which makes rear sensors less of a necessity. The front end doesn't have a camera (<ADV models) so I would definitely want front sensors if I were to get rear sensors.

Also, in order to save money, you really gotta DIY. Anyone who is relatively mechanically inclined can do the installation. You don't have to be a 'car guy' either. I would say that if you are capable of doing household repairs, assemble toys/furniture, etc then you can do this. The instructions that Acura provide are really good and as long as you follow them, you will be fine.
