Question OEM Remote Start or Viper Smart Start???

I am contemplating getting a Remote Start added to my MDX and was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the OEM vs Viper Smart Start? Also does anyone know if the headlights come on when you start it remotely?

Thanks in advance.

The dealer installed remote starter is horrible. It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't work. It also once went total cold on me and also would not lock the doors. I have an after market remote starter on my old 2002 Odyssey which works even after 12 years without any problems.
No, the headlights do not come on when the engine starts so there is no way of confirming whether the engine is on or off.

Though I agree the remote could have better range, you are incorrect about engine status, the remote will give you a green light once the engine starts. At least its true on the Advanced models, Im pretty sure the optional one is the same thing since it uses the same key.

Yes, you do see the green light on the remote when the engine starts but if you missed seeing the green light you don't know whether the engine is on or not.

with aftermarket alarm system and engine start, usually the headlight or the driving lights will be on once engine started, the range of aftermarket would be A LOT better too especially with the 2 ways of LCD/LED screen on remote. I would pick aftermarket over OEM but I would NOT want to carry 2 key fobs.

Aftermarket alarm system
PROs:
better range
impact sensors
accessories you can add to your alarm system such as program roll windows up or down (you can roll down with OEM FOB)

CON:
carry two fobs especially OEM is big enough already
no more memory 1 or 2, shouldn't be matter if you're the only driver
