Maintenance, Towing Trailer, MID Calculation, Differential & Transmission
If 2014 MDX with 5000 pound Acura tow package is used about 2000-3000 mi/year towing a 3300 pound travel trailer (total with gear/fluids) in the Rocky Mountains and 12,000 mi./yr not towing @ 40% city 60% highway--Total 15000 mi/year.
The manual is very unclear on this and so is owners.acura.com
- Does MID adjust engine oil, transmission, differential maintenace schedule?
- Or do I need to not rely on MID for all or part of these and change based on miles (possibly 7500 for differential, 15000 transmission, ...)

Yes go by the MID, it will calculate based on a variety of sensors that take into account city vs. highway and empty vs. towing conditions. Plus the 5000 lb. package includes the trans fluid cooler that will aid in keeping the trans fluid temp down. Unless your planning on doing the maintenance yourself and change the oil every 3-4k miles and the other fluids about every 30k miles.

I will change all but engine oil myself.
Do you know what is sensed that indicates that the MDX is towing under some pretty tough conditions? Differential oil temperature measurement could be part of system. Drive train torque is not a simple thing to measure.
The hitch has a number of fuses that are installed during installation and I was wondering if one of these provide an indication to the computer that a hitch has been installed.

Only an engineer that came up with the maintenance minder system could divulge all the secrets of this system...But common inputs include, eng temp, eng speed, vehicle speed, coolant temp, throttle position sensor, duration of engine cycles...basically every input the pcm needs to determine how long u drive, how far u drive, and how much load is on the engine and transmission.
If you have awd, you have transfer case, and rear diff fluids to change in addition to the transmission and engine oil, brake fluid every 3 years
