Leasing an MDX.. protection plans?

Hi All,

I've had several acuras over the years, all were purchased used. I just leased a brand new MDX and I have to make some decisions in terms of the protection packages offered? Any general advice on whether these are a waste of money or worthwhile?

Acura lease guard
interior protection
Stone guard
paint protection
Tire and rim protection
Rust proofing

These are the programs being offered to me. Leaning towards declining all, but just wanted to see what the opinions out there are. New to leasing and new to new cars :p. (im in canada if that helps)

thanks!

Waste of money. If any of those things goes tits up in 3 years, you bought a shitty car. Tire and rim is through your auto insurance already.

How long do those items last? Can't speak about all of them, but rust proofing is a total waste. With the undercoatings they use now a days, very few cars rust before they're 10 years old, and that's assuming they're never washed. Maybe Canada winters are harder on cars but otherwise, rust protection is dumb.

Oh, and paint and interior protection seem dumb too. Use a good synthetic wax a few times a year and some leather cleaner/protectant and you'll be fine on that. Chances are, even if you don't, you won't have a problem.

Keep in mind, those are essentially "extended warranty" products, which are designed to make money because statistically, they'll make much more on the cost of the warranty than claims that will be made or honored.
