lease ending soon

hello everyone, since my 2015 tlx lease is ending soon i was looking to see if 2017 hybrid mdx can be next car, also i know hybrid has 7 speed transmission, whats the difference between 7 speed and 9 speed? cons and pros? 9 speed vs 7speed

I have the 9 speed. I actually like it. There are some loud haters, but I’ve found it to be a good transmission, thus far.

that said, the 7 speed is a DCT and I generally like those. My Infiniti has a DCT and I love the crisp shifts.

I would suggest driving both and choose which you like better.

Smoother and faster shifts, no dog clutches, downshifts are butter.

the tlx has the 9 speed and i been having problems with slow shifts and hard shifts and the steering wheel vibration and im trying to see if mdx’s have the same problems with the 9 speed, and the dtc 7 speed i have no idea how those works

From everything I've read, the 2015 TLX and 2016 MDX had problematic programming with the 9 speed. I believe the 2017+ are much better. Many of the complaints I've heard regarding the ZF9HP48 I have not experienced in my 2017... For example, the slow shifts.

I do experience a hard 1-2 shift when the transmission is cold. That's just something we have to accept, however. These transmission are geared quite low in the first few gears, and they're also exceptionally sensitive to transmission fluid temperature. Once I drive for a mile or two the transmission warms up enough to where the shifts become pleasantly smooth.
