Essential Mods/Add-on’s for the MDX

After purchasing our MDX a little over 2 weeks ago I was thinking what are the essential mods that people would like to do ??
Considering that our MDX will be a highway family hauler (traded a BMW 328i for it), we wanted it to be a long term keeper with no frills or features we did NOT want. Thus we went (everyones needs might be different) with the Base w AWD in Silver, silver being among the easiest colors to maintain. Anyway here is a list of the mods we thought were essential (emphasis here):

Acura All-weather mats including the cargo area
Wheel locks for the awesome two tone Base 18” wheels
Acura Rear Bumper protector (the chrome version) as I frequently haul instruments around
Tinted windows
Cargo mesh for grocery bag holding
Running boards for easy entry/egress for kids and elders
X-Pel PPF for the full front (after doing a lot of research on whether it was essential to us ).

The wheel locks, AW mats and tint were supplied by the dealer at the time of purchase so negotiated as part of the deal. Rest we recently added.

Another item is not really an add-on but essential nevertheless - a good hydrophobic coating agent, we went with RejeX after YouTube videos and advice here. This is good for keeping the paint easy to clean

Thoughts on what your essential list is??

I'm waiting on the 2018 Hybrid. Once I get it, these are some of the things I will add:

paint protection film ASAP
window tint
dash cam
aftermarket all weather floor mats
running boards
spare tire kit
mesh cargo holder

Yup..all the very same things I got on my Sport Hybrid MDX.
-OEM all weather mats
-Wheel locks
-Mud guard
-3M Crystalline Front Windshield
-3M FX-HP Front Windows
-XPel Ultimate
-Chrome Running Board (soon)
-Spare tire kit (maybe)

Glad to see another member using RejeX. Remember to put on a light coat or two then let it sit in covered garage for at least 8 hours to cure properly. It's a sealant so if you drive right after you apply it, contaminants might get trapped under the sealant.
I didn't do it properly the first time, so had to strip the sealant and do it again. Lots of work, but worth the protection. It a really awesome product, best I've used in years and I've tried alot of waxes and sealants.

Things I get for any new vehicle here in NH:
  • Splash / Mud Guards
  • Body Side Moldings
  • Heavy-duty cargo area cover (I usually go with a Lloyds Ultimat)
  • Trailer hitch (Curt) w/wiring module (small utility trailer)
  • Winter wheels / tires
I tend to not get a lot else. Running boards don't help a lot, and actually catch slush/dirt in the winter and help track more stuff into the car. Also all-weather mats tend to catch snow/water, and when warmed up, can wick up your pants leg. Just using a good all-season carpet floor mat works well. also I usually just stick to a good wax/sealant rather than an applied system.

How is the 3M Crystalline applied to windshield working out? is it completely clear? Or is there a slight orange peel effect?

I went with the Crystraline 70 which does have a slight tint, it's not completely clear like the 90. No Orange peel effect if I'm not wearing my polarized sunglasses. You don't really need to wear sunglasses anymore with this tint since it cut glare down drastically. The heat reduction is really amazing. Don't need to use sunshade anymore. I often use remote start to cool down the car. Once I'm inside, it's very comfortable even when the car have been sitting out in sun for few hours.

I usually put 20,000 miles per year on my then 08 RDX (+143,000 miles) and now my MDX (+100,000 miles) since they are my main hwy cruisers. Entertainment options with tablets, iPads, or smartphones with extra USB charging ports and plenty of monthly data come in handy for me. I also invested in a few over-the-ear headphones with noise cancelling because that help block road noise for the kids/wife and the driver can listen to the MDX sound system at normal audio level.

I did all the protection stuff on my MDX like:
- 3M clear bra (front end, side mirrors and headlights),
- Blackvue DR650 front/rear dash cam,
- all weather mats,
- jumper cables
- NOCO GB40 lithium jump starter (also can charge USB devices),
- window tint,
- cargo cover (out of sight, out of mind),
- added full size spare with wheel cover to help keep the spare clean,
- extra set of Gorilla wheel locks
- flashlight

The only extra things I add for winter time trips in the mountains are: 6X8 nylon tarp, folding shovel, tire chains, and 10,000lbs nylon tow rope.

What dash cam are you considering? Blackvue?
