Drove 2016 MDX Loaner today
I am buying out the lease on my 2014 MDX and while it is getting inspected and running boards added they gave me a 2016 MDX Loaner today. It is a SH-AWD, with Tech pkg although not sure. But I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the behavior of the 9AT. It was smooth, and fast, no hesitation, great downshifts. I had it in Sport mode and it had about 10,100 miles on it, so it was pretty well broken in. I really liked it. Were it not for my plan to be car payment free by the time my son graduates from high school, I would have been tempted to trade in the 2014. It also makes me look forward to when I get the new transmission put in my TLX in a couple weeks. It will be even more fun to drive!

Since there's been so many negative comments about the 9AT from early on, I'll jump in here and say I agree with you.
When I went to test drive MDXs the other week, I drove a 2015 and 2016 back to back (was prepared to purchase a CPO 2015 if I didn't like the 2016). I was very vigilant about the transmission in particular (having read all about the issues with it), but I really liked it (this is post-software-update, obviously). Very smooth, quick shifts. It seems the earlier issues have definitely been resolved -- we took delivery of our 2016 a couple days ago and it's been great. My wife likes the push-button selector (although it could have been executed a little better, I think I like it too).

I have a 15 V6 TLX and Im shopping for a new MDX. Of the 3 that I have driven, they all shifted light years better then my TLX. The 9ZF in the case of my car, hasnt really had many problems like many TLX owners have had, but I just find it very lethergic, slow to up/downshift. It really ruins the whole V6, SHAWD powertrain. The old 6AT V6 combo in my RDX is a great package by comparison.
