Continental vs. Michelin Tires

In the past when I have bought "top of the line" Acura's or even Honda's they all came with Michelin tires.... My 2018 Acura MDX Advance SHAWD model came with Continental Cross Contact LX Sports (245/50 R20). Upon driving it for the past 1500 miles, I have concluded they are not the best choice of tires (they must have made Acura a good deal....dumb more HMC !!!!!!) ...so off to TireRack.com and spoke with a gentleman there who confirmed that they are NOT the best tire for most quick wear and choppy ride mostly in town (that was my complaint as well) ….97% of reviews on this tire on multiple vehicles complained of poor wearing, noisy and choppy ride. Upon calling my contact at American Tire in my town he too confirmed it was not a good tire...esp. for $317.10 each!!!! So he is going to order me the Michelin 245/50 20 Premier LTX tires at $225.00 each. Now what do I do with these Continental's with 15xx miles? My 2007 MDX Sport with Michelin rides ultra quiet and smooth in town compared to my 2018 "like new" MDX with these awful Continentals..... Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!!!

Yeah I'm not too pleased with the Conti's on our '17 Sport Hybrid neither. Will switch to Michelin when they wear out. Wife have 15K miles already on them! You can always throw your Conti up for sale. Will help offset the cost of the Michelins.

I echo these sentiments. We are at about 18,000 miles and they are at 6/32nds of depth.

Yup, I put Conti tires on my '05 MDX based on Consumer Reports rating and found that they would't hold balance for more than 5K miles at the most. I owned a repair shop at the time, so it didn't cost me anything to balance them, but it was just a PITA. No problems EVER with Michelin.

Try Craig's List. Maybe some kid will buy them for his tricked-out Civic.

I have 35,000 on my Contis on my 2017, 5/32 still left on tread, no issues with wear, balance etc, rotate every 5000 miles, very small less then 0.5 ounce weight difference when rebalance at rotation ,

I'm curious ,for anyone who has bought a 19 Advance (SHAWD or FWD) what tires did you get

I have a 19 Advance SHAWD with Entertainment and mine came with Michelin.

I think I read they use certain tires by trim so all Advance SHAWD for example within a model year should have the same tires (doesn't vary by region).

If true then the only other variable would be did they change for 2019 vs 2018.

Typically auto mfgs let out bids for items like tires and batteries. Then tire mfgs submit their best per item offer. Low bid gets the job. It be a single or multi year contract. Continental got it at least for 2018. Apparently Michelin got it for 2019.

It isn't an all or nothing proposition with Acura. Each year they use both Continental and Michelin apparently. In years past it sounded like they used Continental on their high volume most popular trims (like tech packages) and Michelins for the others.

So model year and trim level will likely determine what tires were OEM on the vehicle from the factory and all others with the same trim for the same model year should have the same tires from the factory

Bobby2478: I've bought top of the line Acura models from 2000 to present. ALL of them came with Michelins!!! This was a first time getting what I thought was a fairly top of line model (2018 Acura MDX Advance) with Continentals and I am not impressed with them or the vast amount of "reviews" that don't have much good to say about them.... !!!

I'm not disagreeing with you, I only said that year and trim for the mdx will determine what tires came on that vehicle from the factory and I'd assume all 2019 MDX Advance with Entertainment and AWD for example would all come with the same tires from the factory. The Tech AWD trim could come with different tires.

My 19 AWD Advance with Entertainment MDX came with Michelin Latitude Tour Hp's

Imagine your frustration if you bought a TLX that came with the GoodYear tires that seem to be the norm. Having bought Acuras since the early 90's, I can say they "usually" come with Michelins - but there are exceptions. I actually had Bridgestones once......

We just brought home a 19 Advanced SHAWD and it came with Michelin's - we are from NC.

My 2007 RDX has Bridgestone Dueler Alanza H/L, prevous owner installed just before trading in to dealer I bought it from... IDK if tgey came OEM, but it seems many luxury CUV/SUVs have them installed...

I'm clocked in at 12,000 miles on my 18 Hybrid. My Wife's Lexus IS has a little over 30k. We drive a lot to see family all over CA and she travels all over SoCal for work.
