Any way to avoid tire charge for 15 MDX lease?

Just had my lease inspection for 2015 MDX. Apparently, I am going to be charged $800 for my tires which SGS claims to be at 3/32 tread. This is my 4th Acura and first time this has happened.

Has anyone been able to convince Acura Financial to waive this charge? Wondering if I should give them a call and see what they are willing to do.

I know there is certain dollar amount you get for dings or scrapes but apparently this not applicable to the tires. If anyone has had success with this, please let me know.

Thanks.

It's been a long time since I have turned in a leased vehicle but am guessing you aren't getting into a new lease and the dealer isn't interested in your MDX? Turning your MDX into a different dealer isn't an option? Is the SGS inspection entered into a database that follows your MDX? Not sure if you are interested in going to the trouble, but maybe replace the current tires with cheap used ones which will inspect better? Just some thoughts.

I am undecided about leasing another MDX. This tire charge was by SGS during inspection and not specific to a dealer.

I'd like to know if anyone has had success getting Acura Financial to waive the charge. I guess cheap tires could be an option but that's still around $600 so not sure if that's worth the hassle.

Not cheap tires but cheap used tires. You can find them on CL all the time. Here is one example just north of Boston - https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/wt...219537719.html. Again you may not be interested in going this route, but you can can do much better than $600.

Do you have a fwd or sh-awd MDX? Is it all 4 tires at 3/32nd? It seems it would be Acura's poor choice in OEM tires if the MDX completed all the scheduled maint and you are at or under lease mileage?

I converted my donut spare into a full size spare on my 11 MDX. I purchased an used Conti DWS 06 19" tire with 85% tread for $85 with shipping included in the price from eBay. I would just look at eBay for used direct OEM replacement tires prices. You might be able to cut the cost in half going the used tire route.

I would get some used tires on CL. I think just to be safe get all 4 tires with the same brand. I heard some manufacturer are very picky about mixed brand tires when you return your leased vehicle
