First, hello to the Acura Community.
I have been lurking on this site for about 3 weeks now as I has decided to purchase a 2014 MDX-SH with Adv, Tech, and Entertainment package.

Although I live in Los Angeles, I noticed the Canada MDX's have a surround-Camera system (Similar to the Infiniti units).

Does anyone know why this is not offered in US Models?
Anyone have any insight as to when it might be available (even as an upgrade option)?

Canadian models also get power-folding side mirrors. Nobody knows why they didn't offer these in the US, since they are all built in the same plant.

+ real olive ash wood, headlight washers and a few other things. However we do pay about 8 to 10k more. Inspite of this, I think they should be in the US models. Most new cars cost much more in Canada than the US even when they have the same package. I am sure that Acura have heard much complains on this and may provide these options in US cars in 2015.

I don't know either. It is just a stupid marketing decision. Surround cameras is actually the most disappointing thing in '14 MDX.

One reason I can think of is that when the top-trim Canadian MDX, that has the surround camera system, carries a price tag of $66K; in contrast to the mere $56K price tag for the top-trim US MDX. There has to be something special about the Canadian spec MDX, being that it must have features that the much cheaper US spec MDX doesn't.

I'm curious how the sales will be for the $66k top-trim model in Canada. Car buyers always complain about missing features, so this will be a good test case to see if they are actually willing to pay for them. Or if they expect them to be added for no additional cost.

It would be nice to have the MDX with a variable price model from lower cost entry to multiple middle trim lines, to an "Ultra Luxury" package with everything the Canadian model has. - WA

Even if you can get the parts to do it , front grill camera and the grill, all the cablse, a new switch panel ( have to replace the one under the second screen), new side mirrors,etc. It will mostly Void the US warranty.

Yes, this is why we would hold on to our spare parts and swap them out if needed. Can someone please help?

Oh yes, a new center-dash switch panel and switch assembly (for that extra "Surround" button), plus a new set of wirelooms that contain the surround camera wiring and plugs.

Using the new wirelooms means the whole dashboard has to be taken out and reconnected up, unless a lot of mickey-mouse rewiring is used instead.

This is a major undertaking, both mechanically and electrically.


Unless you don't ever take your modded MDX to any Acura dealership for service or for warranty repair, otherwise you'll have to swap everything back out before each dealership visit. Does it worth the trouble ?

The Canadian version has always been more expensive than the US version even for the same car I.E. Elite Ent vs. Advance Ent. So it's not as easy as it seems to just state that the additional cost is for the additional features. Previously the MDX was made in Canada for the home, US and Chinese markets but the Canadian version was always the most expensive.

Surround back up camera and folding side mirrors are an excellent option. Why not on U.S. models?
