test drove the 2014 mdx with tech and entertainment package today. the 6 speed is definitely smoother and less jerky than the 9 speed. power delivery is not lightning fast but thats not the point of this car. the lane keeping sensors were quite intrusive and also had a random "BRAKE" warning. I think I am going to go with the 2014/15 MDX. now the next question is how helpful are these driver nannies and can i turn them off and they stay off? or do i have to turn it off every time. I do like that it has the blind spot monitoring lights by the side view mirrors but was irked by the 2 warnings while driving for 5 minutes on the road

I love my 2018 ZF9 speed.... its smooth as buttah…. I don't drive it like a Corvette though...… what was the year of the 9 speed MDX? they have improved the 18&19 shifting with the ZF9 tranny....

The zf 9 speed in the 19 is very smooth, much improved over the 16. I am still in break in period so haven't got on it yet but will report back after I get past break in period and can start to accelerate more aggressively

So far the "refinements" mentioned in the 19 press release seem to have addressed most complaints about rough shifting

Only at 338 so that will take a while yet but will definitely be nice to not have to think about it.

I did hit the accelerator a couple of times going down the highway before I realized there was a break in period but only twice and it wasn't crazy and not from a dead stop so shouldn't have done any damage

Just avoid wide-open throttles and hard breaking for first 600 miles per the manual... Then put it in sports mode at a stop and step on it..
quite impressive

Since this is a tranny thread, wanted some input on a 2016 FWD vs SHAWD MDX. I ask because seems like some good deals to be had on them but not sure about the tranny and a FWD on something as big as an MDX. Any thoughts on the FWD tranny wearing quicker because the vehicle is so large / heavy. Info appreciated.

I'll make it easy for you, SHAWD. These transmissions seem to be built very well and are made for both fwd and sh-awd.

Driving dynamics for Acura's SHAWD is probably best in class. I couldn't fathom buying a 4,000lb + SUV with FWD. Some may say the car is only for the Wife to haul kids around town but I feel its a much safer vehicle with the AWD.

I guess i will finish this thread off with my own impression of the 6 speed in sh awd. Thr car driving dynamic changes drastically between comfort/normal/sport and that includes the transmission programming. In comfort and normal mode the transmission does not downshift for most throttle inputs. Sport mode is where the transmission comes alive! D vs S mode is another monumental change. Sport D mode the car shifts more immediate to throttle input but still does not shift multiple gears unless WOT. It does take in paddle shifter input but only for ~3 seconds before goong back to Automatix programming. Sport S mode the trans never goes to 6th gear by itself and stays in the higher RPMs almost all the time. It also remains in the gear you select the whole time when you use paddle shifter. When launching from stop, first 2 gears are aggressive and definitely rushes the mdx out of the hole. Im very happy with the 6 speed and nothing to complain about! And i get to have the traditional shifter in my hand! Thanks for all the help on this topic.
