2019 Map Update?

Have anyone received email about getting the 2019 Map Update? I just purchased a 2018 MDX w/ Tech in November and they're already asking me to pay $150 to get this new map update. Is this something that supposed to be free for a few years?

The navigation updates are not free unfortunately. I received a discounted off for an update for my 2016 RLX, but have not received one for my MDX.

Wow that's lame. Gotta fork out $150 for it when I just barely have the car for 2 months. I expect more from Acura service seeing how much I paid for the car.

If you have 2018 then you can just use android auto / car play and not update the maps. Honestly since turn by turn directions show up in the MID just like factory navigation and traffic rerouting is smoother with Google maps/Waze I don't see a benefit to using the acura navigation.

Only difference I've found is in the MID when using factory nav it shows the name of the street u are currently on when using the compass and when navigating it shows this underneath the turn by turn directions in the MID. Google Maps and Waze don't.

Voice recognition with Android Auto is also better than Acura navigation.

Yeah I don't plan to pay for map update as it's totally unnecessary with Apple Carplay/Android Auto available. Just thought this would be something Acura would include the first few years of purchase seeing how much we pay for these cars.

For navigation that's updated by DVD/dealership no auto maker provides free map updates. So it's not just Acura, that's how the industry has worked for years you always have to pay.

New generations of in vehicle nav are connected to the internet and can receive map updates OTA and for these the map updates are beginning to be free (new RDX, XC90, some others)

If you REALLY want to update the Acura navi, the map updates are $99 each spring.

it's sad that they don't specify what's new in each update

Those map updates are about 1 year behind. I bought four 2018 map updates for my 2011 MDX-tech, 2012 RDX-tech, 2012 TSX-tech and 2014 TL-SHAWD-tech which all had the original maps and they were better than the originals but still did not have some new streets within the last 1-2 yrs. It takes about and hour on each car to do a full update and the car has to be running(idling) when doing them.

Well since 2018 has android auto/apple carplay I don't think it is worth it to update it. I rarely use the built in nav or nav at all. Just wondered if this was something that was supposed to be free since it is my first car that offer navigation updates. Thanks for everyone responses.
