2017 MDX Sport Hybrid OEM Tires

17,000 miles and the OEM tires are down to 6/32nds. Normal?

FWD or AWD? you need to rotate them tires.

AWD Hybrid. Rotated twice and wearing evenly. Just seems faster than expected.

If I remember correctly, I got about maybe lil less than 40K miles in my 15 SHAWD with Continental tires. You probably drive it hard too, especially on turns and cornering with SHAWD.

On our 16 in only 15k miles we were down to 5/32. Mostly driven by wife hauling kids to and from school, and she drives like a grandma, lol. We live in a neighborhood with a lot of up/downhill windy roads. I am positive roads were the biggest contributors.

Does the Hybrid come with Continentals?

My 2017 has Continentals and they are among the worst tires I've had the displeasure of owning. Once they wear out I'll be switching to Michelin Premier LTX. If they continue to give me grief then I may even eat my pride and replace them early.

I got into the habit of rotating and then cross-rotation every oil change to even out the wear on my two sh-awd vehicles (08 RDX and 11 MDX). You will get more wear since you are powering all four wheels with sh-awd instead of dragging the rears in a fwd vehicle. I switched to the 50,000 miles Conti DWS 06 tires and I can get close to that with the MDX (a lot of long hwy runs). I can only get around 35,000 miles with the Conti DWS 06 on my RDX with mostly city driving (drive the RDX more aggressively and a lot harder in the curves than the MDX).

So yes these are the factory Conti tires. The vehicle is driven normally and almost never pushed to even 50% of its capabilities. You can't on civilian roads. The ride, traction and noise performance is perfectly acceptable with the tires, but taking cost out of the discussion the Michelin LTX and the Cooper C5 tires look to be attractive alternatives. I am just surprised that tread life seems to be much less than I would have expected. I purchased the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus 3 tires for the RLX Sport Hybrid and even though I do generally drive that car move aggressively (just because it is fun to do it), I have 24,000 miles on those tires so far and they are at 7/32nds of tread left. I will replace any tire once it gets down to about 4/32nds just because of the limitation of water evacuation based on the shallower tread depth. So based on my calculations I might get 30k on the Contis for the MDX Sport Hybrid and about 45k for the Michelins in the RLX Sport Hybrid. The cost differential for any tire is not a component of my decision making, just the performance aspects.

I've got about 6500 miles on my stock Conti's on my '17 MDX SH-AWD (I ran snows for about 3k miles during the winter), and they're down to between 7-8/32nds per tire after that few miles. I keep them inflated to about 35 psi and don't drive crazy - but they just seem to wear faster than I'd expected. When I was picking out the MDX I was toying with the idea of getting a non-Tech (base model), and one of the "pros" was the stock Michelin tires that the base model had vs the 20" Conti's on the Tech package. There was a piece of me thinking I'd ask them to swap 18" Base model wheels/tires when I took delivery - but I do like the style of the Tech package wheels more. I figure when these get worn past my liking I'll go with the Michelin LTX's. I've already had to have a private shop do a Hunter RoadForce balance on the stock Conti's - including repositioning all 4 to smooth out the spin - to make them tolerable to use till they wear out....

Well it seems my findings are not unusual. Any concerns about the LTX tires only having 8.5 32nds as new? 60,000 warranty comes with them so are they a harder compound? What am I missing here?

Running recommended pressures on all four corners? How about load? I'm sure you are not doing anything out of the normal. Just throwing a couple of thoughts out there.

Normal pressures, driving habits, and normal loads with a few exceptions loading up to go to the beach with the family.

Purchase some 255/45 Pilot super sports and call it day. Those Conti's dont do the MDX justice.

Did you have a steering wheel shimmy? I had that on my 18 for the first 700-800 miles but it went away on it's own. I even re-torqued all wheels and adjusted tire pressure, nothing helped until one day it just went away on it's own.

Mine was more of a choppy feel while driving. I only drove the MDX for about 1500 miles on the OEM tires, then switched to winter wheels/tires (which were smooth as silk). When I put the OEM wheels/tires back on this spring, I noticed the choppiness was back. I went to a local shop I trust who takes the time to not only use the Hunter RoadForce balancer but also visually inspect the spin/integrity of the wheel/tire combo. They found that while the road-force results showed things in spec, that there was a visual hop in each wheel/tire combo. The repositioned all 4 tires on each wheel and got the spin much better, and while not perfect, it makes the ride much smoother and tolerable. The tires are mostly OK, although the cornering stability is actually worse with these than the winter wheel/tire setup I have. If I decide to keep this after the lease is done, I'll put Michelin's on it to hopefully improve that summer feel.

Wouldn't 265/45/20 be better? And if that is the case the pilot super sport A/S 3+ would be my first choice.

255's would be to widest I would go for a 8inch rim. 265/45's tire choices are very limited as well.
