2015 Acura mdx, ac does not turn on automatically
Hello new to the mdx. Just picked up a 2015 awd tech. I noticed when I hit the on off button the ac does not turn on automatically, just the fan. Is that normal?

I think that the AC light on the AC/Sync button does not turn on when the HVAC is in auto mode, but the AC itself does go on if the interior requires cooling. If you push the AC/Sync button and then select "AC on" on the touch screen, the auto light will extinguish and the AC compressor will run all the time. This is useful for things like dehumidifying the interior. Pushing the auto button will cancel the AC-always-on mode, and will extinguish the light in the AC/Sync button, but the compressor will continue to work as needed.

So lets say i have the ac on, I turn off the ac and turn off the car. When I return and start the car, I push the on button and just the fan is on, not the ac. I am not using Auto.

If you're not using Auto mode, and you have the AC turned off in the touch screen, I don't think the compressor will ever engage. As for the starting, the computer system seems to keep the compressor disengaged until the engine has started and is running for a few seconds. You can hear the compressor engage. If the car did not use such a delay, it would simply put a bigger load on the battery and starter motor. (In the Hybrid I don't think there's a starter motor, I think the high voltage motor in the transmission turns over the engine.) And why not use the Auto mode? I find it incredibly accurate, especially with the heated and ventilated seats synced to the HVAC in the Advance trim. I've had many passengers comment on the evenness of the interior climate, which I've never heard in a car before. It's the seats.

With the system in Auto mode, manually reduce the fan speed if you want. The Auto light will go out, but the system will continue to control everything but the fan speed. When the car has heated or cooled to your taste, press the Auto button again and give fan control back to the auto system. I guess it's difficult to design a system everyone will like, because I find the HVAC excellent, and it rarely requires manual adjustments. Do you have the Advance synced seats? This is really excellent.
