Trading in a 2nd gen MDX and seeing a rather large $$ difference between 2014 and 2016 mdx (mileage being same). Any big reason not to try to save some $ with a 2014/2015? Thanks!

Neither 14 nor 16. Go with other MY like 15 or 17.
14 being the 1st model year of 3rd gen MDX with some bugs(not for you some lucky ones), 16 being the 1st year of ZF 9 speed tranny, I believe many had huge troubles with it.

i have owned my CPO 2014 for ~8 months now and i am glad to have the CPO. so far its gotten quite a bit of the TSB listed fixed. high pressure fuel pump replaced, nav/screen software update, transmission fluid flush and software update, power steering software update, and the last one steering column motor replacement. I am also being super diligent and staring at the TSB list as I drive the car to make sure I catch everything, the transmission judder definitely affected the driving experience, the ticking noise from the fuel pump was worrisome, and the screeching noise from the steering column as you get in and out of the car made the car cheap. I do like my shift knob though!

I like our 2016, but I can’t compare it with the 2g model. I did buy the factory extended warranty for $1600, but so far haven’t needed it. Besides some condensation on the garage floor most nights And a weird Sport mode I can’t find a major problem with it. Paid 26k for MDX Advance with 47500 miles on it. Looked at Telluride and Tahoe as other options, but for the money this was a solid deal. I like it a lot more than our previous LX570 and the mDX gets almost twice as much hwy mpg. I have an RL too.
