2014 MDX Major Paint issue inside front doors near seal

Hi,
Has anyone else noticed a paint problem inside the front doors of a 2014 MDX, near the weatherseal? My MDX is blue (if that matters). Never wrecked. BOTH front doors have this problem.

The rust color finally caught my eye as I was getting out of the car. Please see pictures attached. The weatherseal feels fine -- I'm wondering if the root cause is a paint defect, or if it's more to do with the seal (again, on both doors).

I'm checking to see if I still have warranty coverage, but am curious other folks' thoughts on this. Thanks.

Wow that looks serious! Interestingly i just bought my 2014 CPO, and the one thing that stuck out was paint at the edge of the rear bumper bordering the bottom of the rear brake light housing looks lile it has bubbled. I made sure in the purchase that they would fix the bumper, but i sure hope its not a continuing trend. I did ask about paint and even at CPO, they said paint is not covered in the limited warranty. Do follow up with your paint issue!

You may be covered by the Rust Perforation Warranty from Acura. I'd take it to a dealer ASAP as it's for 5 years.

Isnt that rust on the main body itself??? I wonder how they gonna repair rust/replace the frame???

Thanks for your helpful responses! We have an appointment to have the dealer inspect the car tomorrow. I'll follow up and let you know how it goes.

As far as the rust is concerned, I don't think it's too serious. Up close it looks like surface rust that could be sanded away. It's startling to look at, but I think it's been caught before any major damage occurs.

Hi, here's a follow-up:

Dealer had never seen an issue like this before, and contacted corporate Acura. Corporate asked for proof that the doors were original, so the dealer took pics of the VIN stickers from each door and sent them to corporate. Corporate then approved having the dealer cover the paint repair. The MDX is currently with a body shop having the paint repaired. I unfortunately do not have a direct POC with the body shop, so I am not sure the extent to which they are stripping and repainting. I am hopeful that the exterior doors do not need a repaint.

Thanks

They're just going to repaint the door jambs, not the doors.

would be nice to know what this turns out to be. corporate wont tell you the shop name?

Wouldn't they use who they would normally use/recommend for body work, etc.? Hopefully they wouldn't just try to use Maaco!

I got the MDX back with the doors repaired. It seems "OK" but time will tell how well this was done.

The interior of the door panels were not completely repainted. It looks like they probably took the interior door panels off along with the rubber trim, unhooked the door stops (but left door attached to car), opened door as wide as they could, then stripped and repainted the front portion of the interior door. I also noticed that the receipt from the dealer calls the repair a "goodwill" fix, even though the car is still under warranty. That seemed strange to me.

On the bright side, the VIN stickers are still in place on the doors, since that part of the door panel was not repainted.

Exactly where in the warranty is paint warranted? There was no rust through, so whats the problem? Acura stepped up and fixed it for free, yet your arill compaining. I understsnd your upset about paint failure, but stuff happens. Do you live inmor did the car come from the rust belt or get driven on the beach? Snow, road salt, dirt accumulates in some strange places. Heck you should be glad you did not have a 70s or 80s GM product with their decades of paint failures.
